This is a good question, some people maintain that they are essentially the same. But with Porsche you never know..

Awhile back CJV posted a comprehensive list of all the significant (and substantial differences) between the TT and the GT2. A search of the archives may help.

Since I own a GT2 you may consider that I'm biased, no matter how hard I try to remain objective

I have the technical introduction booklets for the 2001 turbo and 2002 GT2. The GT2 booklet tells you what is different on a GT2 compared to the turbo. There might be later year booklets that answer your question. Jeff

The tranny and gearing is totally different between the two as well...GT2 has an oil cooler while X50 does not...

Default X50 & GT2

The X50 and GT2 motors are the same except the GT2 has .1 or .2 bar of additional boost. The X50 has steel synchro's like the GT2, the GT2 has an oil cooler for the transmission and the X50 does not and I believe the gear ratio's are different.

The mechanic at my dealership refers to my X50 as "GT2 engined". The small hp difference has generally been attributed to .1 bar extra boost, estimated to gain 10 hp. Since an X50 generally does not attain maximal boost in 1st or 2nd gear ( you're in the gears for too little time under full throttle), I doubt you could measure the difference in 0-60. The biggest difference is the weight, by my recollection about 150 pounds, and 2wd drive which feels faster as you break traction more easily. AS

Actually the weight difference is more like 220lbs. In addition, the suspension components are different. GT2 uses several parts from the GT3-R. I think CJV once said that in order to upgrade a Turbo to a GT2 suspension it would cost about $25K.

Thanks for the correction. That amount of weight is significant and can be felt more than the hp advantage. AS

The quoted weight difference for '04 models between Turbo and GT2 is 170kg which is 375lbs. Must be too much luxury gear now standard on the Turbo...............

Yeah, like the center differential, front differential, front drive shaft, right and left front axels & constant velocity joints, etc..

A lot easier. There are many stories on Rennlist about totalled gt2's. It will bite you if you are not careful.
