Default Tiptronic Modifications????

I've done a few search's and have failed to turn up any useful information on the subject.

What types of modifications are available for the tiptronic tranny?

What are the typical complaints with this tranny?

Thanks in advance for the input!

There's plenty that can be done. Take a look here for all the stuff done to my car:

Stephen at www.imagineauto.com knows the drill. He knows what to do and how. Together with Kevin they'll make any Tip beafy and extra safe. The extra tranny cooler they put in is fab.

Alex,

Thanks much for the link to that thread. Fascinating! I read all 11 pages and was very impressed.

However (yeah...), it appears that the tranny cooler is IT for the Tip?
No electronics? Faster/harder shifts? I'm surprised.

Hi M.

The tranny cooler is indeed to cool the transmission. The ECU work done by GIAC means faster/harder shifts alright

Eeeeeecellent!

THAT'S what i was after. I assume that also means faster DOWN shifts as well?

Best guess.... is the TIP (modified) significantly slower in terms of lap times on a road course?

Finally (promise) , does the modified software make the tranny "abrupt" during stop and go driving?

For the average driver, the tip is not slower. For an excellent driver, it costs about 1.5 seconds at a track like Road Atlanta. On a very tight track, it might be quicker. AS

Not at all the tranny shift patterns (there are a few) learn when you're gunning it or driving steady. In any case you can always get clicky with it and use your thumbs

I was one that thought the Tip to be a slug. We modified Alex's car and I do admit I was wrong. We are modifying a 996NA tip with a supercharger right now and the tip is plain fun. I can't shift a 6 speed faster than the tip can lock in to the next gear. They really are not bad. In regards to the cooling, we used a plate cooler which transfer heat much more efficiency then your standard row cooler. The benefits are compact size, OEM part and high efficiency.
