Cooling fan replacement

Cooling fan replacement
Started the same thread in the 996 section, but given the C4s and TT have the same radiator set up, posting here as well in hopes of someone having some insight...
I've determined my driver side fan is inopp -- the relay and resistor are good, so save some wiring gone bad, the fan is no good. I believe that's the case because i put 12v to the fan and it didn't make a chirp.
So i've sourced a new fan, but curious if anyone knows if there is ANY possible way to replace it without draining the coolant? On the C4s, the fan/shroud is held on by two screws in the back and in the front there are a few "fingers" that slide into the mount. Thing is, one of two screws at the back is completely blocked by the radiator carrier. I removed the circlips and loosened all the bolts in order to wiggle loose and gain access to the screw in the back but no luck. Replacing just the fan/motor doesn't look doable because it has to come through the front of the shroud which is blocked by the radiator.

You rawk, thanks for the link and making me feel old and inept in searching the forums! I did find the YT vid on the Boxster but the anatomy is quite different.
Car is is at home with the bumper off and I have a whole bin of bungees so I know what my Friday night has in store, thanks again!

Thanks again for the link above Frank, that totally worked -- I REALLY appreciate it. I had a PCA BBQ today and my engine temps were 20 degrees lower w/ the other fan blowing, so pleased to have that squared, next up a full brake refresh!
Oh and Krazy, good to know you're local -- i actually grew up in Murfreesboro, are you a PCA member? If that speed yellow TT in your avatar is you're current whip, I'd LOVE to see it in the flesh.

Shame you local PCA are "purists". In my local guys do crazy stuff, like a 997 GT3 with custom built 4.0L twin turbo stuffed in the back of it. You would fit right in.

No purist here Krazy, I’m not familiar with your build but will find it. No kidding about lack of a scene in these parts... I’ve lived here most of my life and pcars are pretty rare much less gatherings. I’m no dr, dentist or attorney. I’m a car dude. I was reminded of that today at the PCA event when I realized I know more about most of the cars there than the people that own em, lol.
Ribs were great Frank!

i think i'm about to figure this out also. need to r&r a fan, and i do know the rad behind which the fan sits needs to be removed. that should have coolant loss, but probably minimal. not requiring a drain by any means.. i suppose its a good thing i'm r&r'ing my expansion tank at the same fun time

dealing with same. can you please tell me the easiest method of testing the resistor AND relay? would a durmatric divulge a bad resistor and/or "relay"? im unfamiliar with its workings and doing my best to figure it out BEFORE i get to a friends that can assist. Thanks in advance.
