Question loss of oil pressure

Hello all. While driving home on the freeway today I looked down to see my oil pressure at 0 and I think a warning on the dash that said oil pressure sensor failure. This all happened pretty quickly as I was trying to pull over. I pushed in the clutch and when I let out and the pressure was back at 5 and the warning prompt was gone. The car never threw a code. Made it home with no issues. Does this sound like a pressure sensor acting up? Any input would be appreciated, my heart rate is almost back to normal now. This is a 2002 Turbo.

Replace the oil pressure sender.

the oil pressure sending unit is known to go bad....common failure item.

Check and clean the contacts to the sensor. If that doesn't fix it then replace sensor.

I bought my 996TT in Feb. it was located in Sacramento and I am in Ohio. PPI was good. I flew out and drive it home. Made it clear to Tahoe before this very thing happened the first time. By the time I got pulled over the light was off and the pressure was back up. Must have happened 50 times over the next 2 days to get home. Sometimes it didn’t go right off but car had oil, wasn’t leaking, didn’t make any funny noises and here were no changes in drive ability so I just kept going. Extremely stressful trip though. 😉. Got home and Indy replaced the pressure sensor/sending unit. Still happens on occasion. I think the sender needs to be replaced again but he thinks it is the actual gauge in the dash. I haven’t bought into that yet. Crazy stuff. Getting pretty good at ignoring it now :-). Doesn’t happen all the time but more than I would like :-). Others I have spoken too give me the impression that it isn’t uncommon for mezger engines (GT3 and TT).

its the 2 wires going to the sensor. crimp them tight and your issue will go away

If the oil pressure warning light did not come on, only the warning message and gauge failure, its definitly the pressure sending unit located right behind the oil filter!

I had the same heart attack inducing episode when I first bought my car. Had the sender replaced and all was good.
