I'm new around here as you can see by my post count. I'm currently looking at a 2001 with 28k miles on it, black with nat brown leather, 6MT. The car doesn't have service records, currently has the 2nd gear pop-out issue, even after trying to do the Gbox detent fix. The car also has delamination going on with the dash. I'm curious what you guys think the car is worth or if you think its even worth pursuing. Up front to fix the current "known" issues i'm guessing $5-7k. Let me know what you think gurus.

Color combination is among the best. Have you seen a CarFax, is it accident-free?

Personally, I only found 2nd gear pop out mildly annoying, but it's a pricey fix for sure. If you're talking about the dash leather separating, that's a big deal. NBL dashes are rare and there's a lot of labor involved in a swap. Butdet $1500. However, if you are referring to the trim pieces next to the windshield delaminating, that's much less of a deal. Likely the car is worth at least $30K

I'd guess it's $5-7K for the gearbox fix alone... And not that many places I'd trust to touch it.

If you got it for a good price then put in GT2 gears while fixing the pop-out, you'd have a solid car for a while.
The possibility of buying one with no known issues and higher miles could have you rebuilding the box anyways, At least with this car you get low miles on the motor and hopefully the rest of the car reflects the lack of miles too. Or, could be 28k at the track...

I’ve yet to hear a definitive answer in all this time. Someone out there must be able to confirm. To the OP I think you should pass considering no svc records, it speaks volumes at that mileage. Also, the imminent repairs required.

GL!

I have a 2003 with 28k miles no gearbox issue but all 3 radiators were changed (leaks) ,rear spoiler repaired (leak oil) and a regulator are all that so far that has been repaired. They say 03 are better sorted from factory but worth checking those items Another 8 k or more if need attention

You replaced all the radiators @ 28k? Do you reside in a HEAVILY wooded area. Maybe impact to the front, I remember someone replacing them @ 110k because they were never cleaned.

The rear spoiler on my car threw a code around 16-17k, the issue is simply inevitable and the rams leak. I refuse to replace it and add fluid when need be.

RPB - if you aren't interested in upgrading to the Rennkit eRam system, you might want to look into the new repair for the OEM system recently developed by Kevin:

Gbox detent pin will not work if the gearbox is already popping out of 2nd.
