What I’m researching: Buying a Sachs 2.5, keep DWF, have installed.
Reached out to Porsche of San Antonio (they won’t do it) but quoted $3,700 in labor
Reached out to Goose Auto, quoted $4100 in labor
Waiting to hear back from Jone’s Autowerks (recommended on forums), still waiting.
...but is this what one should expect to pay for labor only? Around $4k? Seems very high...

It does sound high, even for California prices. I'd keep shopping around. And of course if you're going to drop the engine, may be a very good time to address those coolant fittings.

And always replace the rms since you're staring at it upon dropping the trans. It's basically a 75 dollar o ring.
Are you in la? I can make two referrals that will cut those quotes in half.

Thanks, nope...San Antonio. I just called a place with pretty good reviews (named: German Car Specialist). Said he could do the clutch and pin coolant lines for $2500. I supply the Sachs 2.5 kit. I would definitely do the RMS as well...just makes sense. Sounds very Porsche-savvy. He mentioned using a Sharkworks kit for pinning.

For what it's worth, $4k was about the bottom quote I got in the bay area for dropping the engine and pinning the lines, with the added benefit of every reputable shop not being willing to take the job without being given carte-blanche to "do what it needs" while you're in there, and an added bonus of it being ~1-2 months of waiting for availability.
That's Bay Area tax for you though.

I will flatbed my disabled 2004 996TT with coolant lines that have popped out to you tomorrow if you're willing to do it for $2,500.
