Replace clutch - 27 hrs labor (~$4k)? Say it ain’t so!

We just did this on another 997TT last week. Like others said it is a $2500 for pinning (i prefer welding on new aluminum tips). Do a clutch with engine out is like an extra hour or hour and a half with a rear main seal. If just doing clutch ona 996tt, it is a 7ish hour job. Not a big deal. The dealer playbook starts with step 1) pull motor and transmission

Curious what Jones Autoworks quotes you - I just moved to San Antonio myself and haven't needed service on my 996TT or Cayenne GTS yet, but in doing my research they come super highly recommended for their abilities and honesty. Not surprised at the sky high quotes from the dealer though.

Thanks, nope...San Antonio. I just called a place with pretty good reviews (named: German Car Specialist). Said he could do the clutch and pin coolant lines for $2500. I supply the Sachs 2.5 kit. I would definitely do the RMS as well...just makes sense. Sounds very Porsche-savvy. He mentioned using a Sharkworks kit for pinning.
Thoughts?
Thoughts?
a sachs 2.5 kit ( 1200$ +/- ) and another $800/1000 labor for a clutch r&r? and i'd say you were in the ballpark. but. that means they would be adding roughly 1500$ for the pinning. up to you!
also, the coolant lines as preventative cant hurt?? but that's a"choice" and not a "necessity". unless you're tracking. GL with it...and yes again, make sure you swap the rms while inside.

i think you've found a much "fairer" price and knowledgeable mechanic. much better than the previous qoutes you got. the reality is though, that 8 hours is all thats needed for a pro to get in/out with a clutch r&r. i'm not sure what the lines pinning is in terms of a "going rate"? as I not only hope to never "need" to do it, i wouldn't unless i did. so..

I think we are talking about the same thing, but my Porsche vocab is probably lacking. Pinning the lines (fixing the coolant lines) seems like a smart idea with the engine out already, as well as the RMS. German Specialist said $1500 for the clutch r&r and then about another $1k for coolant line mod including some Sharkwerks kit for it.
I’m probably about 2-3 mos out from having it done....oem clutch is hanging in there ok for “normal” driving, but that’s about it.
Thanks for the advice and inputs!

Thanks Jason! I’ll keep that in mind when i’m ready to pull the trigger on this!

For what it's worth, I used to subscribe to the forum wisdom that pinning/welding the lines wasn't necessary for cars that aren't tracked but just street-driven, until it happened to me on the street, on a car that to my knowledge wasn't tracked by previous owners.

About 2 months ago I had a Sachs 2.5 installed. I supplied the Dual mass flywheel and he ordered then clutch parts. Labor cost was just under $700 with only pulling the trans. Hope that helps.

Berk at German car has had 3-4 996 turbos he is good people and stands behind his stuff, he is on the forum too. I had him do my intercoolers when I didn't have time and it was super reasonable he is just a little far for me sometimes. Also curious what Jones quotes you. (Could you shoot me a PM on the quote).
Good luck
