Default a little hesitation at tip-in. Is this the e-gas I'm feeling?

I've got a week now driving my "new to me" 2001 996t. I've noticed a slight delay; or even hesitation when lightly applying the throttle. I'm unsure if this is just a "delay" caused by the fly-by-wire, or if it is an engine problem. (?)

I have yet to check for a vacuum leak, etc. My PPI mechanic didn't catch it. Maybe it's just me. Are there any "common problems" that I should check into? Thanks. cj

This may be the part throttle "Hickup" many people describe. My car has it and i have not been able to fix it. i have tried MAF sensor, MAP sensor, e-gas reset, throttle body clean, boost leak check, logging with COB and with Durametric, plugs. nothing seems to make a difference except disconnecting the battery. It makes it go away until the ECU seems to "learn" this bad habit back in a period of weeks to a month..

Third-Reef, did you try TB gasket as part of the clean, etc.? I remember someone here recommending that. I notice a slight hiccup on my car, but more on tip out.

Maybe try a recalibration?
The E-Gas should be recalibrated. With the key off and your foot off the gas pedal during this procedure turn the key on and leave on for at least 60 seconds. After at least 60 seconds turn the key off and leave off for at least 10 seconds. The next time the engine is started the calibration will be done.

I replaced the TB gasket (only leaked above 15 psi) and have done the e-gas reset. the e-gas reset seems to help but then it comes back over time.

There shouldn't be any hesitation at all other than right at 3k rpm there is what we refer to as the "Variocam stutter" it's like a hiccup and passes once the cam profile happens.

Other than that, it shouldn't hiccup at light throttle at all.

Had this issue, here is what I did to fix it.
Clean throttle body
change air filter if needed
clean maf with aerosol type cleaner
do e gas reset.

I actually pulled my throttle body and body and did this:http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=666...er=asc&start=0

if tb is buggered the same year model boxster tb is identical to turbo tb. That means a new one is $200 instead of $450.

also from hot start to reverse is there any fluctuation..mine would sometimes shut off?

Also check the backside of the gas peddal. The foot pad is connected to actuator arm with a ball an socket type set up. The ball can dislodge from the peddal and can cause lag.

I will try the e-gas re-boot tonight. Thx for the suggestion.

Thank you for a link to the nice write up Atrox. This sounds like a good plan if the re-boot doesn't kick it. Q: after cleaning the potentiometer and sweep, did you then lube with some sort of dielectric grease?

yes i used some white grease sparingly. Also used some micro mist lubricant spray on the butterfly hinges as well. That write up is great all credit goes to original author. You really don’t clean the tb unless you pop that plastic cover and clean the brain. It’s the same contact brush system that slot cars use so it really is very crucial to keep it clean. Carbon build up happens in there and needs to be cleaned.
