Default GT3 blows coolant at Nurburgring

If you never saw what coolant does to a track, check out this. This equals disaster, 14 cars found a slippery track, not a happy ending. The sounds of the cars crashing was nasty..

The weirdest thing with this incident was the cars that had pulled over trying to void collisions, including the fellow warning others, made things worst. They left no room for anyone else to bail out.

I would like to know if a hose was the real failure on the GT3Rs or a pipe that popped out..... But I think on the GT3RS the pipes are threaded, but not sure.....

Brutal.

I had the same thought, Carlo. I guess he gauged that navigating through would have been more difficult/dangerous?

I think it depends on which type of RS it was. The Motorsports versions I have seen have threaded and in some spots welded tubes. The road going versions I have seen are glued just like our cars.

Carlo: the Nürburgring rules and regs for tourist-drives specifically state that you are to pull over and assist/warn others (without putting yourself at risk). I just posted on this in the GT2/3 forum:https://rennlist.com/forums/997-gt2-...l#post14607959

JP, no. All Mezger engined 911s had this issue. See the thread I linked to above.

The Nürburgring is not considered a race track for the tourist drive sessions: it is considered a regular public road with one-way traffic and no speed limits. It is everyone's individual responsibility to drive safely. European and American perceptions of individual responsibility differ somewhat...

I am not saying the fellow should have just driven by and done nothing but it seems like he left his car parked in a very bad spot.

What made this situation worst was the drivers that were able to slow down all parked behind each other. Which normally seems like the right thing to do, just not in this case, as the others had no place to go.

After watching that video, I don't think there was much more helmet-cam guy could have done. If he would have decided to proceed and drive thru, he would have probably been rear ended anyway. He could have pulled over on the inside of the track but you saw that didn't work out for the guy in the red car that got taken out by the white 911.
It was a horrible thing to watch for sure.

Thanks for the link Steve, good information! I don't know where I got that from, can't remember, I'm getting old ;-) but I remember reading about a 911 with threaded cooling pipes , may be RSR ???? I could be wrong.....

I don't speak German, but I definitely understood helmet cam man saying 'Get the fock on the other side of the armco!' to the other guy standing right in the kill zone.

He is lucky as hell to be alive.

Don't get out of your car on a hot track! But if you must for some reason, get behind a barrier ASAP!

The comment about "it's everyone's individual responsibility to drive safely. European and American perceptions of individual responsibility differ somewhat..."
Is a bit of an understatement, unfortunately responsibility doesn't really apply to many US drivers. If that happened here in the states there would be multiple lawsuits filed. Just this morning a woman past me wth lipstick in one hand and a her cell phone in the other, all this while doing about 80 mph..

Direct link to the Youtube footage from the original post...

Another video of the same incident... In-car from the second red 911 appearing at about 1:12 in the original video. Not as dramatic footage, but the audio is wild.

It would have been interesting to see what 911 it was that lost the coolant. I believe it's the car you can just see disappearing behind the instrument cluster pod at 0:33 in the second vid above. But it's too small and hazy in the pic to identify.
