2018 GT2 RS takes the ring
Looks like the GT2 RS has the record at the ring.

I don’t like these ring times as they now compare the times with what’s been done before. The track is faster now after its overhaul. Great great numbers but I can’t see how it’s faster than the 918.

I think it's great that a RWD 911 holds the record.
Ring times are really all about advertising, since most people will never drive the course and if they do they won't generally drive their Porsche at its maximum capabilitie through the entire course.
So since Porsche sells more 911's than they sold 918's, the 911 platform having the record is IMO outstanding for sales (at least for those who buy cars based on "records").
I would advise Porsche not to put the 918 back on the Ring in an attempt to set a new record.

Well the GT2 is 500 lbs lighter has 700 hp, but would not be surprised thats a conservative number. As we all know Porsche seems to be successful in continued better performance year to year.

It's a awesome car no doubt and would be my choice for a new Porsche, but to bad they're gone before they're even for sale. I think the track is faster now and so are the cars, even the new Camaro ran a 7:16.

RESPECT!
Huge, huge, HUGE respect, not only for the awesome car, but for the dude with the skills and cojones to drive that thing at 10/10 and pull off that lap time! Insane. Always is a source of pride when our favorite marque, Porsche, sits on any record...

You are one of only a very few Corvette guys that I have ever seen (read: "that I have ever read them say"/"heard them say") admit that. It seems the majority are enamored with the static weight distribution of ~50/50, instead of understanding that it's the dynamic weight distribution that is important.

It's just too bad that Porsche will not make more of these new GT2s, would be a great car to drive.

People buy them, get scared or tired of it and realize they will not outpace traditional investment tools and sell to owner #2 or 3 for less than they paid. With 5x as many on the road, kids today would be able to see one somewhere outside of a car show and may become a future porsche buyer??
