At first I had Shell, a factory oil, then I wanted improved shifting so I tried Delvac which my trans did not like so then I tried Redline which was ok for a week or so then my trans got tough to shift. Searched here and learned ( from powderhound ) that there was another factory fill other than Shell, Mobilube PTX. Tried it and my trans loves it.

I'd like to use this as well. Where did you find it?

And is it suitable for the front diff too?

preposterous lol. methinks you expect too much from your oil,.. for if the "trans got tough to shift" after one week on a fresh fill of any of those? something else is going on.

a one week trans oil "taste test" comparison is about as accurate, and would deliver equally questionable results, as would a double blind drunk taste testing vodka lol.

it will all get you lubricated

i wasn't trying to disparage your findings, per se. i was merely attempting to point out that driving for a week with one recommended gear oil type - and being able to noticeably discern the difference between one brand over another one you had also just tried - was analogous to a vodka taste test, after one had already been drinking.

so when i suggested "something else must be going on"? it was a reference your reporting that after one week of running redline gearbox oil, shifting became "tough to shift". that would tend to suggest an issue beyond the "type of oil" you used, possibly contributing to this "tough shifting" you mentioned.

that was all. as long as you like what's in there now? all that matters.

Is 4 enough for both transmission and front diff?

Go to your neighbor:

Your local dealer is a classic restoration center.
Anything else you do will make the oil seem cheap.

Dont think so a little shy of 4 will do the transaxle. I have never used 3'qts like some say its always takes me more than 3 less than 4 for the transaxle.
Front takes about 1.3 qts. Either way you will need more than 4 qts for both!

Agreed. Meant to say "for trans 3 was enough".
Haven't yet done the front.
