Default Are we a roller or flat tappet cam/lifter engine?

I know 993's and prior are flat but i cant seem to find info on 996tt cams and for that matter even up to 991tt cams. it seems all are flat tappet. how is that possible? isn't that a bit antiquated? my cursory search must be erroneous...anyone know?

Flat tappet, The cam lobe rides on the top of the bucket that has the hydraulic lifter built into it.
