Update 4.23.2018

Hershey Swap meet was this weekend, about 160 miles round trip. Went with my girlfriend, who had zero complaints, fatigue, or discontent with the compliance. Set to 12F/13R. Bombed down the highway to get there, but was exclusively on back-roads in farm-country home. I was so energized by the car that I didn't to stop driving when we got home. It was pure joy.

The Amish on Horse-and-buggy were a bit antisocial with my beetle though.

I've done over 40k on my Ohlins now, everyone who has been in the car is impressed by them....

This sounds correct to me, both in "theory" and in practice.

I’ve had pss10’s on my car for over 5 years and pretty happy with the results. Never had a problem for not a track car. Also have them on my 964 and the 964 is lower than the turbo. TTS is set up by Chris Cervelli to a gt2 height.

what VR did/do you have? What Porsche do you have?
Ha, thanks. I didnt see ypur response until today when I was reading, I mean drooling back over this thread. Both of my cars in in my Avatar. Arrow Silver 99.5 GTI MKIV and a 2004 996 Turbo in Arctic Silver. The GTI is way down the rabbit hole with a fully built 3.0L VR6 after a nasty battle with hydrolock in 2007...That motor lost. It was rebuilt better than ever though. I absolutely adore that car, and will never sell it. Its my first car, and will be passed down to my son along with the Porsche.

Glad everyone is having great luck with the Ohlins. I cant wait to get a set. Still waiting on the funding. Every time I get back close in my "car" stock account the market takes a dump. Good things are worth the wait.

Very good! I have a thing for VR6s as well as these flat sixes! When you are ready, just let me know and I'll hook you up.

I just installed a set in this 996TT along with Tarett monoball uppers, drop links and motorsport adjustable monoball toe links. Such an awesome set up! The ride, turn-in, control and feel is so good. Final ride height, street+ alignment and fine road tuning is next.

Thinking about swapping my PSS10 for Ohlins.

I thought I read somewhere that Ohlins require a rebuild at a certain mileage interval but can't seem to find where I saw it.

Is there anyone here who can confirm?

Yes, Ohlins recommends service every 30k KM.

I knew higher end race shocks had maintenance intervals but didn’t know the regular street/track setups had them too.

Does Bilstein have a recommended interval?

Or is it up to the owner to decide when it’s time to freshen things up?

Thanks guys

Update 6/4/2018:

Drove up to the Greenwich Concours yesterday with femme.

Left Philadelphia at 8:30, got off at Arch Street around 10:30. Suspension on 12F/13R was superb on 95 and handled the notoriously treacherous GW-CT stretch of 95 without too much discomfort. Ended up stopping in Brooklyn on the way home to wait in line for 45 min at Julianna's with no issues over cobblestone and some less-than-ideal roads.

Got caught in the rain on the PA Turnpike on the way home and ripped my lip off on a railroad crossing about 5 min from home.

Overall, another joy-filled day driving around the Northeast courtest of the fine engineers at Ohlins.

This is my car picking it up today to bring things full circle back to my starting this thread last August. Dave @ Butzi Gear has been amazing to work with I can’t reccommend him enough, although driving 2 hours to have this work done should tell you how good I think his shop is. I will post initial impressions after the 2 hour drive home tonight.

Drove the car home last night two hours from Butzi Gear in CT down the Merritt through the Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn all kinds of road surfaces, highways, etc....Its transformed! This is the way I thought the car should have been when I first got it. The turn in is so crisp, the ride is firm but so controlled and comfortable plus the float I experienced at highway speeds is gone and the ride height is properly dialed in. Also did new Michelin PS2 tires all round plus an annual service. Overall, I highly recommend this set up compared to stock, I'm sure a lot had to do with my car being on original suspension but I only had 28k miles. Also Dave @ Butzi Gear in Milford CT is a wizard with these cars, he sent constant updates, photos of the work, saved all the old parts and even did a short test drive with us picking up the car at 10pm last night. Right before we were about to leave he said wait one sec... and proceeded to take out his torque wrench to check all 20 lugs...this is a professional who cares about his customers and their cars above all.

Butzi gear sounds like a great mechanic...but if he torqued the wheel lugs properly the first time, why did he do it again? just saying unless he did some stuff on the test drive that made him feel he could have loosened up the lugs, or just very very careful.
