He lives in a nice home as well, so he's not a "hood rat". lol

Just had Paul look at a 2003 Silver /Black 37K miles, tune, exhaust, shocks / springs...the rest stock. In CO for me.
He gave great remarks on it.

I can buy for $50K (final offer from seller)

Needs tires and the front will need a "respray" if I want it perfect. Other than that, really nice car.

Thoughts?? two years newer, half the miles, and better color combo than the 2001 I posted. Plus tune, exhaust, suspension, etc.

Where in CO?

Remember, you'll most likely need to retune it when you bring it down from altitude.

got a link? that could be a swell car. barely broken in, and you wont need to "re-tune" the car after driving it down from a CO mountain lol

That's not true. Up here we tune for 91 and altitude - I'm sure you know this since I believe you live up here. If you live at sea level, and have 93 as your go to, you should retune to be safe.

I have a tall driveway, and I remap after I made it down just to be safe

I also have a saab viggen map, and a diesel truck map. The diesel truck map is pretty cool, it turns on the windshield wipers automatically to wipe away all the dust that I'm going to be covered in.

You're saying you don't think a car needs to potentially be retuned on a modified map for a 5k foot difference in altitude?

I've owned a dozen tuned cars between Denver and Chicago and can assure you, that I've had to retune to keep from leaning out or running too rich - depending on the situation and car.

Never thought about the re-tune for Sea Level.

I'd like to confirm prior though, if it's really needed.

Call the tuning company and see what they think.

COBB was always pretty specific about it when I used to use their tunes. On my custom tuned cars it was definitely necessary.

First off, the car was tuned by a previous owner I believe in TX or nearby, not when the car was based in Colorado. Not for high altitude, so the question is moot on retuning for sea level.

Secondly, unless you have a 99/100ths kind of custom tune, trying to get ultimate power, plenty of modified parts, running near the ragged edge of detonation, you likely don't need to 'retune' for altitude or sea level. Were talking about stock, vanilla tunes here.

I believe the car in question has a GIAC off the shelf tune and exhaust, not a custom dyno tune or data logged tune.

But that said, this is one of the reasons I prefer to buy stock vehicles... Current owner really doesn't have much of a clue about the tune. Is it 91? 93? Race gas??? Who really knows... Probably just a Vanilla 91, and there was certainly no sign of detonation, but again, this is why I like to buy stock or directly from a knowledgable owner who knows exactly what was done, and all work done at a shop or tuner with a strong reputation.

GIAC might be able to look up the car by the VIN and tell you what they did to the ECU if it was back in the 'mail in' days...

Ha, didn't know it was tuned in Texas.

With my previous cars most were on custom tunes. With my first STi, for example, when I ran Cobb, they suggested re-flashing to their 93 tune when I moved to Chicago for awhile. I ended up going for a full custom tune, and when I moved back up to Denver a year later, I had to retune as the car wouldn't adjust to 91 and altitude.
