To clarify.....changes to the models---any improvements (not just the engine turbo).

2003 and newer got the MOST fiber optics stereo, which is not necessarily a good thing.

I believe the '01 doesn't have a glove box, correct?

Most changes '02-'05 were in available options and entertainment systems.

'05 bundled some options that were available earlier, notably powerkit and PCCB's, put on some slightly darker wheels and called it the 'Turbo S'

'01 -> '02 were bigger changes, but still pretty minor in the scope of things. Added glovebox, changed center horseshoe slightly, a couple of other changes most folks would never spot.

Wasn't the 2nd gear pop out fixed in 02 or 03?

Been talked about before, but '01 had the shiny buttons, whereas '02+ had the matte finish

2004 has the reinforced (Spanish) engine case, with a 996 part number rather than 964.

'02 and up had the stiffened chassis, and '03 and beyond, exhibited no more 2nd popout ( as mentioned ) as gear tolerances were amended. also, "most" was a "step back" as my 02's sound system sounded a lot better than my 03's does.

Late build MY01s have the stiffened chassis but still no glove compartment.

The rear spoiler issue is on all stock 996TT's. It bled over to the 997TT's too. You can get an aftermarket replacement system that uses electric motors to raise the rams instead of hydraulic cylinders.
