Rear shock/strut difference between 996 GT3 and GT3RS?
What are the difference between the OEM 996 GT3 and 996 GT3RS Rear shocks?
Are both rear shocks physically the same size / dimensions?
Is it just a valving difference?
So you can swap and interchange them?
Are the RS shocks considered an upgrade?
Thanks

Different:
P/N: 996 rear shock: 996.333.051.95
996rs shock: 996.333.051.97
I posted a pretty comprehensive list of the 996RS bits some time ago - https://rennlist.com/forums/996-gt2-...rs-thread.html

There's a good road comparison in the June 2017 911 & Porsche World magazine between a 996 GT3 and a 996 GT3 RS over the undulating Yorkshire drivers roads in the UK.
Performance apart, the RS suspension is quoted as being "uncompromising", body control "ruthless" making the steering having a hint of Tourette's. And this is comparing the RS with the GT3, which is not a plush boulevard cruiser either. They quote that extended seat time feels like you've been in a fight.
Now one mans opinion on suspension is not the panacea for happiness and it doesn't mean that the RS parts can't be successfully fitted to the standard GT3 with good results, but reading between the lines.......

As a owner of both 996rs (stock) and a very modified 996gt3 I would probably go aftermarket suspension before putting stock RS suspension on a gt3.

I'm trying to keep it closer to OEM. If the RS shock is just 'sportier' valve change - shock body, etc is the same - seems like a nice OEM upgrade, especially when the RS shock is priced cheaper than the standard GT3 version.

The RS shocks are "sportier" but you need also RS front springs for the balance. And keep in mind the front RS shocks will come without the droplink support. You have to use your old ones, the drop link support is not sold separatly. RS front shocks are designed/sold for 996 RS /997 MK1 uprights but fit to a "normal" GT3 MK2
