I own a 996 GT3 mk 1 in speedyellow and have now ordered a 991.2 GT3. For me, the 996 is a keeper, being the first GT3. We shall see prices of 996 GT3 go up at the latest when the GT series celebrates its 20th anniversary.

Best, Tobias

After almost ten years owning my 996 GT3 I am starting to accept that these cars are less likely to appreciate than I had hoped/believed that they deserve. While I love driving the car, and bought it to drive and not as an investment, it seems like I would have been better (financially) buying much more common and higher volume cars like a 993 C2S (blech), 964 RSA (yawn), etc.

Any other long term owners questioning a second decade of keeping their 996 GT3? Garage space is at a premium.

I am a long term owner and garage space is now at a premium. I ordered the car new to my specs.
I have had other cars so this car didn't get used much although that was not my intent when I bought it.
I am getting the itch for probably my last new Porsche. We have family and friends in Germany and visit often. Picking a car up in Stuttgart is a big reason for wanting a GT4. As I started getting serious about it I came home from the dealership and took my car for a drive.
I basically have a brand new GT3 and I don't know if I can get rid of it.
In that case the only option would be to get the GT4, use the hell out of it and sell it in about five years.
I gave serious thought to selling the GT3 but I cannot at this time.
I don't really have the stomach for all the crap surrounding trying to get a special car from Porsche so maybe the GT4 will not even be an option in which case that will determine what I do. (take delivery of a brand new 996 GT3 that I already have and use the crap out of it).
Sorry for rambling on.
Rich

I am having fun driving mine. I don't care what it is worth when I am done with it...if that day ever comes.

Having just spent 5 days at WGI in the last two weeks with GT4 (2 days) and GT3 (3 days), I can again vouch for how much fun the old gal still is. The visceral nature of the car vs the newer NVH characteristics of the 4 make it a blast on the track. Driving back and forth to WGI the GT4 hands down is a better experience.

I am on line for a new 3 next year and keeping 996 and will sell another car to make room and defer costs. 996 GT3 is a keeper.
Chet

Well, the inside of my 04 GT3 hood is signed by Derek Bell. Would that make mine worth 130K?

How would you feel driving a 500k Singer? How do you feel driving the great 996 GT3?
I simply get so many thumbs up and, so enjoy the look and capabilities of the car.
Is the 996 GT3 becoming a Heritage throwback for Porsches?
Is a new GT3 a sister-ship to a new Macan Turbo?
Do you get where I'm going with this? Not sure myself but, I'm keeping my 6GT3.

GT4 is a late November build. I have only 1,300 miles on car and approx. 300 of those are track miles. I originally was going to sell GT3 and get GT4 as maintenance on 3 was getting pricey, but being the original owner (14 years) and my first Porsche i can't let her go. Sold my M3 LTW to get GT4!!

Glad I kept 996 as i would have been miserable if I had sold her.

I sold two of my long time ownership air cooled cars last year. One 930 and one 76 built lightweight targa. Both amazing cars to drive and own. 997TT and 996Gt3 were calling my name and airbags and abs as you get older are nice to have. Not a day goes by where i dont think about these two awesome cars.

I cant help but wonder. Will I grow to old for the raw gt3 ride and end up with the newest 991.2 turbo or AWD PDK sofa seated lux model P car 10 years from now?

First world problems.

We drove the 6GT3 to watch LeMans at Porsche West Broward (congrats Porsche for a third consecutive win!) Penske dealership. They have a great collection of race cars including one of the Flying Lizard cars that has been on the circuit. The wife said the ride to/from the dealership was like being in a blender compared to her cushy SUV, but she loved every minute of it.
