agreed re Mobile 1 delvac and crunchiness even here in So Cal.
I've been told by a well-respected LSD guy that Mobilube PTX (GT3 fill back in the day) is Delvac + "friction modifiers" = slippery stuff to make Delvac less crunchy in cold climates.

I just say no to Delvac in any flavor and filled with Redline NS.
Might not be the best choice for a track car, but works well for my use.

+1 on Motul. Running stock trans with Guard diff. Shifts beautifully but I have no fluid comparisons to offer. Local shop used to use Delvac but switched (can't remember what performance benefits specifically). Also runs well in my STI.

+1
Same exact reason and transmission shifts great after warming up a little.
5/50 M1 in the other hole.

I just had my first track day with PTX. Better cold shifting and less noise overall (I have the RS lw fw and clutch)

Here's my experience:
delvac in my 964 and 89 G50. A bit 'stiff' when cold but great warm performance. lsd on 89 is a little crunchy. 964 is OK. If that bothers, run PTX or another gear oil with friction modifies.
On my GT3 with guard LSD, with many, many track days, it's been delvac almost exclusively, but i switched to motul 75-140 (on suggestion by my shop from Bill rader) and I've found the performance to be fantastic. I feel it shifts even smoother at high track temps. its a bit better at COLD temps than the delvac too.

Have you run PTX in your GT3? If so, how did that compare to the Motul product?

PTX is just Delvac with a bit of slippery stuff added for cold climates.
I don't think you will see much / any difference in Davis.

My local dealer would sell me PTX last month for $75 a liter!!!!

So I've heard. There was a definite difference but that may have been just fresh v. old. I didn't pay anywhere near that for mine!

I just checked on price and I paid $28/liter. Still not cheap, but not $75!

I've had good luck with Castrol Syntec 75w90 in a few Boxster/911 street cars (no track use, but not to say it can't...), $20CAD a litre and readily available, does well in lab tests vs many others
Personally don't have any issue giving Delvac a few minutes to get warm...by the time engine is temperature ready- the trans is too...
