Default Normal for front lip spoiler to riveted with metal

Finally got around to wanting to install a new front lip spoiler on the car a saw that the one one the car is fixed with metal rivets. Normal? Little concerned about drilling them out but guess I've no choice.

The factory mounting hardware is threaded plastic expansion anchors. The lip comes with double sided foam tape. The anchors are available from your dealer. Similar to plastic panel christmas tree anchors.

I will take a picture later and post.

Thanks for the response.

I have the plastic anchors with the new front spoiler. I'm just concerned that if I drill out the metal rivets holding my very scuffed current one that the plastic anchors wont be big enough. Only one way to find out.

I am guessing that your rivets probably do not use the factory holes as they are quite a bit bigger than a rivet. Also guessing that it is riveted because the original holes are FUBAR and unusable.

Let us know how it works out.

Rivets seem like a good idea!

A good plastic welder should be able to repair your original bumper holes if they are damaged or oversized.

Agree with Spiller. The bumper can be repaired if needed. I wouldn't spend the $ on a new front bumper if you track the car.....but, if you do choose a new bumper for any reason, I would highly recommend the RS bumper. Way better looking in my opinion.

I got under the front and the metal rivets are in the 15 factory hole locations. Also noticed that at some point I did put a crack in the front bumper. There was a little gap in one spot where I could see the diameter of the rivets and the look very close to the plastic fasteners that came with my new lip.

I'm thinking screw the drilling out and just go for the RS front look.

I installed rivet nuts and use M6 bolts instead of those plastic expansion anchors after my dp Motorsport front lip/splitter folded under the car at one track's rear straight...now it holds.

The factory plastic screws (look similar to drywall anchors) are actually available in a metal version at the local hardware store, and they hold up a lot better on the "thread" on the plastic ones.

For posterity, these are the factory anchors. Used in conjunction with foam tape. Plastic expansion anchor with metal screw.

Come in packs of 10 (but you need 15)... they are 40 cents / each at my local dealer

Literally just bought some since my lip was ripped off on the highway because of some GD truck tread left in the middle of the road.

I don't think the bumper was damaged...so that's good. So annoyed though...could have probably avoided it too if I wasn't focus fixated on ANOTHER piece of large tire tread in the roadway just before it.

There is also another type of anchor that Porsche sells, it is a push in type and slightly more robust looking than the screw in type above. I think the one I'm talking about may be for the cup lip but either way I prefer it to the one above as it feels sturdier.
