Another way to learn to drive quickly is karting.
I just got into karting a couple months ago and it's a great way to get lots of seat time for practice and wheel to wheel competition. You also learn chassis dynamics, tire characteristics etc. This is all done cheaply (does that exist in racing?).
The karts I've been running don't have gears and make you a much better driver since you have to rely a lot on momentum to turn good times....
Just another alternative and a HELLUVA good time.....

Oh, and I won't be taking the 996TT to the track until I have a run group sticker befitting the speed of the car. I don't want the embarrassment of having the TT being passed by a POS with 200 less HP.
Been there.........

0396: Hate to tell you this but a car with 200 less HP is more likely to pass you in the higher level rungroups cause the drivers are generally better. Lotsa HP != fastest car on track unless the course is mostly straights.

mark, this is john hua if you don't reconize who the hell mooty is. yeah, your POS 200 screamer is a riot. thanks again for that incredible ride at LS. when is my next ride??
watt, i like your posts. they are... shall we say INTERESTING.
i would love to meet you one day.
but in all seriousness, mark and ej are right on. a slow, very slow car will FORCE you to learn to be smooth and fast. i tracked a 996c2 and c4s for a while didn't learn much. then mark and DJ convinced me to get a bugger called miata. whoa, it's a turtle going up turn 6 at laguna. i can drink coffee cut my toe nails while wating to crest T7 but you learn to leave the brake pedal alone and take corners on line to keep momentum up. i am still slow (and don't scare me in your POS 200hp screamer) but i am learning at a much faster rate than i did before. and the 18 track day i been to really helped.
