Default GT3 won't take fuel (diagnosis thread)

I figured I would start a thread as I work through this problem.

The car won't take fuel. When I go into the station and try to fill up, after a couple seconds fuel comes flying out and spills all over. I have no CEL.

I did a ton of searching, and here is what I have done to date:

- Fuse E6 OK
- TSB 10/99 was already done. Pulled the sender and looked at it, hoses/flap already zip tied up.
- Fuel filler door actuator. I get a audible click when I open the little door with my finger.
- Tried different stations with different techniques to fill (upside down/etc).

At this point, I ordered parts thinking it may be the fuel line vent valve:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...Vent_Valve.htm

Because I have no CEL, and because it appears there is no venting going on, I am thinking that the problem is the vent valve isn't opening. I am going to dismantle the inner fender liner and take a peek at the part itself and make sure no wires hanging, etc.

I will keep this thread updated. Of course, if anyone knows the magic fix, let me know!

To make matters worse, I need to fix this by Sunday so I can make a track day where they are counting on me to show up. Worse case I fill the car slowly (takes maybe 45 minutes to fill), maybe use a funnel and gas cans or something.

Bizarre! Curious to hear the diagnosis.

Hope you get it fixed in time.

Went through this myself. I am not a mechanic, but I would replace the E6 fuse as sometimes a defective fuse is hard to see. Make sure it is a 15 fuse.

If you do not find a fix before the track day, bring a screw driver with you at all times. Unscrew fuel cap, just to the left you will see half inch black plastic prong that you can push in with the screw driver. Do this at the same time as pumping the fuel, it will not take too much longer to fill tank than normal. I think pushing in the black plastic prong is maybe a manual way of venting.

Worked for me, hope it helps if you do not find a fix.

I had the same thing. It is a well known problem. New fuel line vent solved it for me.

Well crud. I replaced the fuel line vent valve, and no dice.

Manual venting via pushing down on the tab doesn't work either.

Fuse e6 is a 7.5a fuse. It's clearly ok though.

I also blew out the vent lines coming from the valve with about 15PSI compressed air, just in case there was an obstruction. Seemed ok and air flowed just fine.

Thx for the comments/help. I have read a million threads about this, but I have covered all the common fixes. I am going to pull the fuel level sender/pump again. Maybe I missed something.

I pulled the sender, and double checked. The TSB was done, quite tidy.

So I pulled the connections to the evap tank. Then I got it to fill, albeit slowly. I had to push the button next to the filler neck. So I am unsure if I can connect the evap tank and just press the button. I suspect yes.

So it's not fixed by any means, but I can actually get fuel into the car now. Time to read up more to figure out what's up with having to press the button.

Uh, yes.

Should I be pulling the key out of the ignition?

there have been people who have talked about having issues regarding key in/no fuel venting...likely a ign. switch issue if true...try with the key out and see. Porsche states key must be off...

I did a couple tests:

- tried removing key, didn't matter.
- tried not pushing in the button, surprisingly I was able to fill at the same (slaw) rate.

So, I no longer push the button, but I have to fill S L O W

Too bad, at least you are getting fuel in slowly
Do you have a Durametric?

I don't. I was thinking it would be nice to have one around. But, if the car was throwing codes I would have a CEL right? Is there more to be discovered with the durametric when I have no CEL?

Thx for the help BTW

happy to help
Yes Durametric is a fantastic tool...can do full-car scans, activations(tell the car to function the EVAP vents...), etc...
generic OBD2 scanners miss A LOT
