Default Looking to upgrade the factory exhaust manifolds

Hi guys

I have a GT3 2004 996 Mk II
Looking to upgrade the factory OEM exhaust manifolds.

Of course there are huge range of items out there from super cheap to super expensive!

My budget is moderate, under $1000. Any recommendations as to which manufacturers?

Or…… is it really not with the dollars invested for the genuine horsepower gained?

Thanks and regards
JB

Don't bother unless you are doing the entire exhaust and the CATs. That is where u get the gains along with the mapping.

That is what the manthey 410 kit is basically.

Thanks Das

I actually run a semi-race exhaust:
- factory manifolds
- no cats
- manifolds straight into a performance-based central muffler.

Just manageable on the street!

Hence thinking will upgraded headers change much?

thanks

Just curious, do you have a center exit rear bumper for your central muffler? You might consider 997 GT3 headers + cats + custom side pipes to your central muffler. They're a much better design than the 996 GT3 headers with modern HD catalysts.

that is a good shout above.

the std 996 headers are ok if a little crude. the race design is so much better with the 3 into one collection point so the exit route for the gases is much better and flows quicker.

I think headers would help with your set up and certainly add some torque and better noise. hard to say what else really unless you do back to back dyno runs in same temps and scenarios.

This is my set up. M&M cup exhaust, car makes 365 wheel hp with an engine map. Beautiful header design.

I've actually been daydreaming about having my fab guy build a set of headers for me. I've always been of the school of thought that the OEM headers aren't really the bottle neck in the system but I know a couple of people that I don't think would steer me wrong that have claimed decent gains with headers recently that make me wonder if I should try to build a set of not.

I wish Dyno's were more universally standard. They are good for before and after numbers in close proximity to each other but from one dyno to the next it's hard to compare numbers. I think my local dyno must read pretty high as my car with custom exhaust only (63.5mm pipe, center merge section and custom built flow through mufflers) made better than average numbers and that was after correcting the numbers down for the cool air that day.

I want to do do the same thing! 997 headers and side cans w Sharkwerks pipes. I'd love the Evo 1 set up if I can find one.

Its a little frustrating isn't it, numbers get thrown around online but in reality they mean nothing for comparison's sake. I know a lot of the UK guys use hub dynos which obviously produce higher numbers, but dyno dynamics and mainline systems also share their differences. As you said the only way to compare is to do it on the same dyno, same day and preferably one after the other.

I would just consider stock, Porsche RSR, or M&M
