Default Hoosier R6 vs. R7

Has anyone ran the R7's on 6GT3 yet? I am hearing they are better than the R6's and last longer -- seems like a win-win vs the R6's. I would probably go with my same setup 245/40 and 315/30.

I won a set last fall nasa. Will let you may 1 however last fall when I won them they only had the 295's for the back. Might be a lil loose but fun

Geez just checked. 315's are cheaper than 295's!

Just had a set 245/315 installed for Road Atlanta. Had to roll the fenders since they are a little wider even though marked same size as the R6s I used to run.

MJ, Good to know in advance, since I can have my shop address the wider tire before I get to the track. I would have been pissed if I found out on the track.

I am curious if anyone can tell the difference vs. the R6. I have a few events in April and will know soon assuming the snow goes away (more tonight) and the temp's warm up so the tires can get some heat in the tires.

Another interesting item is the price quote was slightly less than the R6's.

I just ordered a set last week. How low is your car. I really don't want to roll the fenders.

Yea, my car is lowered and I already have rubbing with the R6's near full-lock. This not an issue on the track and really only notice parking/paddock. Not looking forward to rolling fenders to fit R7's, but it is a track car...

I have a set of R7 coming in and we'll see how they fit without rolling 245 F and 315 R... since only used on track I never get to full lock... will advise.

Just got a set mounted up. I was lucky enough to also be doing a new set up Ohlins and monoball tops, so the techs took the time to adjust the wheels within the wells and mitigate all rubbing. I also have my fenders rolled as I run R888's for wet tracks and they are also very wide and square. Wells can now be stuffed all the way into the wells up to the wheel itself before rubbing in the rear.

Default R7

The R7's run 6-8mm wider than the same size R6. The difference is due to the square shoulders on the new R7. Additionally the R7 have stiffer sidewalls so you can run 2-3psi lower than the R6.

If anyone needs help or advice, just drop us a note. We're here to help.

I haven't run them yet. According to the Hoosier website, the R7s should be run at slightly higher pressures than R6s - compare the Hoosier "Care and Feeding" docs from their website. Anyone experiment with pressures yet?

Installed my R7 245-40 /18 and 315-30 /18... rear is fine no contact, front has fender edge contact at small turn radius, too much... option seem to be raise the ride height maybe 1/2", or perhaps change the front to a 245-35 ? The standard 235/40 Pilot Sport Cup did not have an issue... I don't see a 235 in the R7 ?

Further to my info... it appears the side by side of the 235/40 MPSC and the 245/40 R7 are the about same height but tire section width is larger on the 245. I think what is more of an issue is the R7 has a square shoulder vs. the MSPC which presents more of the front of wheel wheel well rub/contact issue next to the side running light. Removed the R7 and put on the 235/40 MSPC which is supposed the same height and I have almost a finger width of clearance in what appears to be height.... I'm wondering if I change to a 245/35 -18 will it solve my clearance issue ? The tire diameter is less. I expected the 245/40 to fit as I ran a BFG tire this size and no issues. This seems like it could be a way to switch from street to track tires without messing with car height adjustment ? Comments ? The tire photo tries to show the shoulder difference between the MPSC and R7

Curious to hear feedback on the R7s as well. Only ran two sets of R6s on my RS but I want to try out the R7s on my Cayman S.

We sell more 245/35+315/30 sets to our 996 GT3 customers than the 245/40+315/30 combo. It was about a 50/50 mix with the R6 but now is 80/20 with the R7. No 235 in the 18" R7.
