New Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Avail in Factory 996 GT3 Sizes!
I've been looking for a replacement tires for my new wheel set up. I was going to go with the Pilot Sport Cups as I wanted to stick with Michelins. (Currently running 245/315 NT01's which I'll be selling soon). As of early last week, that was my only option (Besides PS2 Street tires). When I decided to place my order, I noticed the Pilot Sport Cup 2's (Factory 991 GT3 Tire) were avail in 18" all of the sudden.
There are currently "fewer than 3" fronts avail and "fewer than 11" rears avail on Tire Rack. I got mine installed today and am looking forward to getting them on the car soon.

Ugh...wish they would just release the Pilot Super Sport...
Looks like the PSCs are being discontinued...so that's why they probably released the PSC2s in the 6GT3 sizes.

OP- I've been in a couple cars on cup 2's. They will be at least as quick around a track as the nitto's you previously used.
Oh...and BEAUTIFUL wheels !!!

+1 on the super sport. Why make the 285 and not the 295 rear. I need to replace my PS2's but considering my street tires only see....street time the new cup is not what I'm looking for

I just corded my last set of "MPSC 1s", and tool deliver of the "2s" from Tire Rack this week.
Anyone 996 GT3 guys have experience with them? My Gt3 shop (Premier in Las Vegas) says that the 991 GT3s are getting good tire wear out of them, and that the 996 GT3 crew should expect 1.5-2x longevity. I'll find out in a month or two, but was wondering what you guys thought?
Thanks,

I've driven with them at Brainerd International Raceway and Road America. They are as sticky at SC1's in the dry (maybe even better), they were great in the rain at RA, they are quiet on the street. Love them. Best all around tire for a Porsche I've had yet.

I did a couple laps on them this past weekend at Summit Point and overall I liked them a lot. The reality though is that I need to spend significantly more time on them and this is just an initial impression.
On the final day of the event, I replaced a set of Hoosier R7s I'd been running on with the MPSC 2s. They are nice and grippy and unlike the original MPSCs, they don't need an inordinate amount of time to heat up and grip. I also found them to be more communicative than the original MPSCs. Compared to the Hoosiers, I don't think they had the ultimate levels of grip but I transitioned from R7s with over 20 heat cycles and can't accurately compare the delta.
Considering these are a particularly pricey tire, how they wear will be an important factor for me as well. The fact that they are streetable is a plus. I need more time on them, but I do plan on buying another set for my GT3 since I ran these on my 99 911 track car.

Yes, $1800+ for a set of tires...that seems a very pricey...unless they can hold up to 10K+ miles of street use and track abuse...

Josh,
They are definitely a more track focused tire. I'd look towards the MPSS for that type of longevity. Of course, I am saying this based on 3rd party conversations and with very limited use of the MPSC 2s.

Two weeks ago I spent 5 sessions instructing a student driving a 991 GT3 on MPSC 2s @ VIR. There was plenty of grip, at least comparable to the MPSCs I ran for a couple of years on my Cayman. The GT3 had been aligned by TPC and was very impressive in the tight turns.

RE MPSC2, so far I've done 9k miles including Spa, Silverstone and 2x Nurburgring track days and still have 2mm before hitting wear limit indicators. They'll probably last me another 2k and 1 extra track day.

Here is a set of PSC2's we just took off a 991GT3 with 2k of hard track only miles. 5 days at BIR and 2 days at Road America. Not bad IMO
