Generally speaking, yes. If you do it right however, you can take a TT and take it way beyond the performance of a GT2. It won't be cheap however. There is tons of improvement that can be done to a GT2 but out of the box it's leaps and bounds compared to a TT. Clean low mileage GT2 examples have really turned into collector cars.

As an owner of 6GT2, all I can say is that I get a total charge every time I get in that car. I use mine on the track and the street. When tooling around town it"s well behaved, but I always feel like I'm driving a coiled-up beast. If I start to open it up on on a twisty back road, I'm instantly drawn into the car and focused on the road - out of necessity. If you really want to open it up or decide to take it to the track it will constantly involve and challenge even a very good driver. I got lucky and purchased mine before prices went up, but I have a feeling that anyone who buys one now will feel the same in the near future; it is rare, unique and a true driver's car.

I have owned probably close to 25-30 Porsches at this point. Everything from GT3RS to CGT many times (love that car) and I can tell you I always end up back with the analog cars. There are just simply more of an experience. I have owned 996 and 997 GT2 s and I own a 996 today if that answers you question. I think if your not tracking it but rather looking for something you can drive and feel like that was a treat and an experiance the 996 is just simply more fun. Feed back and feel is great hybrid between an older 911 feel and the power and balance of a modern car without over digitizing it. From an investment standpoint I think you need to make your own conclusion but I feel that 993 GT2 at 700k+ and 997 GT2 at 300k (does't make sense) the fact you can have a clean low mileage 996 GT2 for 150k is a no brainer. Just my thoughts regardless I wish you well and safe driving....

GT2s are just insane. I have driven a couple but never owned (would kill myself!!) and they never cease to amaze me at the way they pick up pace and just do everything at warp speed. bonkers cars!

you have to have your wits about you though and its no turbo in terms of taking liabilities.

set up is key as the factory set up is designed for morons. get that front set up nicely and you have to worry less about the rear beating you out of a corner!

If possible I would recommend you to test drive gt2, gt3 and turbo.

I have a lot of seat time in the 996gt3mk1,mk2/RS/gt2. Always come back to the N/A feel.
Nothing wrong with the turbo, just different.
All a matter of preferences.

Like we have said before it also comes down to how you plan to use your car?

I have both. The 6 is an unguided missile and the 7 is a guided missile.

The 6GT2 and GT3 are very similar in feel, 2 is way faster and leaves a bigger impression, the GT3 is the easier/simpler car to drive out of the box...if you can drive, you can effortlessly powerslide a GT3 full corner, on your first corner...
6Turbo is very different, and fantastic as an everyday, laissez-faire rocket.
I want to have one of each; Trying to avoid bias, priority would probably go..GT2, Gt3, turbo....I've been around a lot of Porsche's, knew what it had to be...

Avoiding price/value, what generation would be the one you keep? I like 997 and is clearly faster/competant stock vs stock, but 996 has more sensation/purity...

My 6 is heavily modded for track duties but my 7 is stock. So I'll compare Stock vs stock the 7, is a great tourer, I just did 2700km in a 6day targa event, I could not do it as safely or in comfort if I used the 6. I'd keep the 6 over the 7 on purist/engagement.

Tough question.

I almost traded away my 6GT2 (plus cash) for a 7GT2 .
Glad to see some here prefer the 6er.
Shoulda bought the mini crashed 7er anyhow when it was 139K. DOH !

Call me nuts but I LIKE the looks of a 996 in silver when the headlights that everyone seems to be fixated on blend with the overall scheme.

I know of people that turned away from a 996 because of the headlight look.
I don't drive the headlights and in a corner hardly notice them

Here is a 6er GT2 for what seems a decent price;

PS the 996/997GT2 are special occasion cars.
For a daily driver I'd be looking at a 997TT in stick. Probably most of the depreciation gone from these, possibly an uptick, as sticks phase out.

As a weekend or special occasion car or investment gt2 all the way.
