Opinion on GT3 and Turbo

Your turbo must be stock. I agree stock to stock the cars are very different. But with minimal mods your turbo will smoke the GT3. This topic has been discussed ad nauseum.

Petert,
I agree that every family should have both a GT3 and GT2.
I would still love to own a GT3, as it is pretty close to the Cup cars. The pro racers say that the GT3 is a very agile car, especially on a closed circuit race track. It is much better than a Turbo for this purpose and with some suspension modifications or adjustments it will spank even modded 996TT around the racetrack.
Manthey Racing has a special 996TT-based racecar called the 996GT-MR. It is faster than their race prepped GT3-RS cars, but remember that it has over 700hp. The GT3 are only running 420 or so yet they still aren't far behind. That's a testament to how cool the GT3 is.
If you are a torque junkie like Watt, however, there is no substitute for raw power. I have a 996TT only because it's a very special car...

Evo magazine just produced a full set of numbers for the GT3 and comparing them to Autocar's origional test of a stock 420PS turbo-
0-100 Turbo 9.4s GT3 9.2s
0-130 Turbo 15.8s GT3 15.3s
0-150 Turbo 22.1s GT3 22.1s
OK in gear figures are quicker for the turbo 'cos 413lb/ft from 2700rpm to 4600rpm rules

I cancelled my order for the GT3 when I was offered a very very good deal on one of the fastest 996's around. It puts out about the same power as CJV's car (according to Chad himself) when he's not running Nitrous.
I am still convinced that the GT3 is the better handling and more nimble car. Around a race track designed for some speed, my car would be superior but this is because it would make up the distance on the straights. The Turbo ain't no slouch, especially with a modified suspension and PZero Corsas.
My decision was one of value. I got a deal that I could not refuse... so GT3.

same here Hamann7. just picked up a TT for a deal that i couldn't refuse
u deal with David at BH porsche right? it's hard to tell him that i don't want the GT3 anymore because i got a TT instead since he is such a nice guy
Petert, i love the GT3 too i almost got the car.
"The GT3 "fun factor" is huge, and the howl at 8200RPM is absolutely unbelievable."
i just can't see where i can use the "8200RPM" in LA
i'm happy because my TT is cheaper than the GT3 i ordered!

I owned a GT3 for 3 days then traded it in for a Turbo which I had for 3 days and then took it back undid the deal and got back the GT3. Feel stupid but glad for the experience. As time goes on I'll feel better at commenting on the GT3 once I have a few more miles and maybe some track time with the car.
