6. Wrong. It was built by skilled and dedicated craftsmen (and women) so that someone would adore their work and it would give the owner great joy.

7. Huh? We just got done a 10-day trip for two with 1,346 miles on the car and another 1,800 miles on the Autotrain. After packing there was still room for another week's worth of provisions and my passenger was a girl.

Look, I have had garage queens and I have spent a lot of time and money keeping the next owner's car in pristine condition. Sometimes I was even able to drive it. This car is mine and we are enjoying every single mile we put on it. The fun never wears off. I have never enjoyed another car more.

This is not a Ferrari, its a Porsche and Porsche's roots were sports cars that were meant to be driven anytime, anywhere. It's as true today as it was when the first 356 rolled off the line.

On top of that the overall condition is still stunning for a car that has had all those miles on it. Do I take care of it? Damn right I do.

Luckily, we live in Florida and the state is very kind to cars (as long as you wash them). I obviously couldn't do this in New England, but here is paradise and its made all the better with a GT3 in the stable.

Anyway, that's my experience.

Daily drove the GT3 all summer while I was between cars (530xi Touring to M3). Roads by me (westchester co, ny) are terrible and the GT3 is bearable since I don't have a city like commute. If you are driving in stop-n-go traffic find another car. Also have to avoid certain establishments as parking is like the wild west.

So DD really depends on the type of commute you have. For me it was fun to drive the 3 everyday for 3+ months.

1. funny, it's bigger than my 993 was and we went on multi week vacations with it...

1. Not if you know how to drive and are actually paying attention instead of texting or talking on the phone
2. yep, as they could in all the other higher priced MB, BMW, Lexus, Maserati, Bentley, etc sedans that are everywhere but nobody seems to mind using them as DD.
3. Again, yep, which is what happens when you drive ANY car
4. so? it gets wet. you wash it, all better...
5. proudly...65k miles of smiles...so far...
6. really? Go ask the people at Porsche about that....its a CAR, if you want a piece of art in your garage, take a picture of you car, hang it on the wall, and sell it to someone that will truly appreciate it for what it is...a CAR.
7. Plenty of room for a week+ vacation with 2 sets of golf clubs (driving 8 hours to get to the destination too!)

I will admit, though, there are some days I think we should sell it to someone that will truly use it for what it was built for - driving on the track...we're not going to track it. Eventually we'll move to a 997.2 GT3 because they are a bit more civilized on the road. But for now, we keep smiling every time we take the GT3 out. Wife drove it yesterday and again today to work - walking past the 07 GTI, opting for the GT3...

 

I turn 63 today and am taking my GT3 to the trap range to load houses.

Plan to start it up, listen to that distinctive engine sound, drive it 12 miles down 580 east and then 4 miles of smooth two lane blacktop. After I come back, Diane and i wll go see the new Hobbit movie.

We'll take her Forester to the show - why temp fate.

Life is good.

echoing the above, I get no pleasure in driving on the street. Like riding a jetski in a swimming pool or a dirtbike in your back yard.

 

I bought my 05 GT3 2 months ago, and drive it every day. Yes, it's stiff. (very). but omg that engine. In SoCal I hit a few road spots that are not fun, but as I did get this to be a Lexus. I have one of those.

I am going to install dynamat under carpet an in doors to tone down the road noise. other than that, it's amazing. The experience is pure Porsche. Almost like riding a motorcycle in terms of grabbing your attention, and making you forget whatever else you were worrying about. Enyoy!

typical tactic to demean when intellect does not work. I guess one would be a duma$$ if they drive a GT3 and do not like it. Drove my 996GT3 everyday: 60,000 mile in just under 4 years. Never rains in Seattle so I was OK there. Was not my only car so could not car less if I had enough room to have Shaquille O'Neal come for a ride. The GT3 is a fine DD for some and not for others. Mooty: I took the passenger seat out, worked great!!
