Default GT3 daily driver?

12 mile round trip to work and weekend drives from SF to Monterey. I prefer the 996GT3 over the 997. Simplicity. But I've never driven one.
I regularly drive a '70S, 993C2, GT2RS (water) and a 997C2S.

Is the 996GT3 as rough a ride as GT2RS and the 997C2S in sport mode?

Thanks

Good to know. Thanks Mooty!

Although I'm eager to drive one.

About rough riding cars. My 70 has a very stiff suspension and is set up for the track. When I do my drive to Monterey I can barely get out of the car and I need to rest for about 20 minutes and regain my hearing. Old age I guess.....never thought I'd say that!

+1 to Mooty's comments. The 996.2 GT3 is MUCH rougher than the 997.1 & 2 GT3s... For a DD, it will be raw - and I think the analogy to fillings is spot on... (As a reference, my wife refuses to drive in it as it "hurts" to ride shotgun.)

I'd make it my DD if I lived in the Bay Area...

My $0.02,

It's a terrible ride in the streets of San Francisco. My wife happy I sold it. I drove her just 3 blocks and got off and walked back home 8 blocks- she said never again. My daughter hates the ride too. My trackdays are few and far between now- only 2 this year with my gt3 before I sold it- let someone really enjoy it. Mike

Exactly what Blake said. My wife hated riding in the car. Now, a 996 Turbo is a different animal and is much more comfortable.

My wife LOVES it. She loves it's ride, it's noise, and I don't scare her too often with my amateur driving. I did about 10 track days back in '05-'06 before my track days were cut short by a motorcycle accident. We use it regularly on the roads around here, HMB to Santa Cruz, Hwy 35-84-1.... I'm retired so no worries about a dd commuter.

I keep threatening to sell it, and get into a kinder/gentler car (997C2S w/PDK), but driving other cars is just transportation. Mooty is tired of me asking what the car is worth so I can sell it.

Not much good in an urban environment, IMO. Or on any roadways where there are dips at intersections. Front too low!

Sure, it's not a luxo-barge, but you already have that. :-)

996 GT2/GT3 are totally friendly day to day, it's not a Japanese sedan but its also way more refined chassis than an air-cooled...go for it!
I also prefer the simplicity/purity of 996>997

It is all perspective. I loved everything about it even after I replaced the bits with TRG, WEVO solid mounts and such. I miss the sound of slapping my hand on the roof and hearing the sound and pushing my hand on the headliner and feeling the lack of anything between it and the roof.
There is an overpriced one up here in Seattle but it is only the asking price.

If you do get one just do not use the cup holder. Well you can but do not have more than 1/2 inch of fluid in a 20 oz cup.

I've been using my 6GT3 as a daily driver since it arrived in late june June of this year. A few comments:

Pro's
1. Perfectly livable around town
2. Solid highway cruiser although an aggressive alignment means the car is "twitchy" in a straight line
3. Hitting redline each day is sublime
4. Rides better than my S5 with coilovers

Con's
1. Crappy stock radio but do you really need it for short drives?
2. I have the SpeedTech exhaust and it is LOUD. To the point I can't carry on a conversation with my BT headset
3. A little scary in the rain
4. I occasionally miss heated seats but...

Overall, I almost never regret taking the 6GT3 for the morning commute (v. the S5). That being said, my wife was a passenger once and refuses to set foot in it again. Too loud, too raw, etc... still trying to get her out for an autocross though!

Made the mistake of taking a large DD iced coffee and putting it in the cupholder. One quick burst of acceleration and the cup disappeared from sight!
