Default How to put car on 4 jackstands if you have one jack and no lift

This is how I've lifted the 993 for years.

https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...p-a-993-a.html

Any feedback on doing this with 996 chassis?

Haven't yet tried same on the GT3 'cause I'm not sure the front trunk well will support the lifting stress. I would think it shouldn't be an issue since it is a C4 Chassis.

Right now lifting all 4 corners with one jack and no lift is a PITA
  1. jack one front and place two 2 X 10's under wheel, taking care to leave access for jackstand to be installed later.
  2. jack other front and repeat.
  3. jack rear using center spine of engine case and install two 2 X 10's under rear wheels, taking care to leave room to allow jack access to rear jack points.
  4. jack one front using the rear jack point and place jackstand under front jack point.
  5. jack other front using rear jack point....
  6. raise rear using center spine as required to install jackstands onto rear jack points.

Then reverse process to put the car back on the ground.

See why I think it's a PITA?????

I raise the front before the rear just to reduce chassis flex / twist.
Make sure you do this with the doors closed (IMO).

Have any of you lifted your 996 using the method we use on the 993s?????

Craig

Link is broken..

But lift each side by the rear jack point first and place a stand under the front points. Once the front is in the air, jack the rear center to get stands under the rear jack points.

linky repaired, thanks.

agreed about the method you described, but I like to raise the front a bit before lifting high enough to put a stand under the fronts.

cheers

May I ask, why? I have the Cup splitter, and have no clearance issues. You could also run the fronts up on 2 x 12s to give it a bit more height.

Rear jack stand point may be wrong.

I bought a pair of the jackpoint jackstands and it's a great product. Not cheap by any means, but a great product. You only need one pair per car (at the rear lifting points).

The front lifting points can be supported by something a little kinder to your wallet:

Just FYI - My old school Craftsman jack was too high for sports cars due to its huge cupped steel saddle (great for tearing up pinch welds and general under body of your car). Since that saddle is easily removed (just lifts out) I found a flat rubber padded saddle replacement that makes the Craftsman jack less of a cave man tool. Omega list a flat saddle as a separate part for about $20 (though it's not always in stock).

I like this idea the best.
Do you (or anyone) have a pic showing where on the rear subframe you place the stands?
Any special jack pads required to secure/stabilize the stand under the rear subframe?
Best place to purchase AC stands?

Excellent thread, btw. Subscribed.

I lift by the rear jack point and put a jack under the front jack point and the rear frame. I do this on both sides and then I can still put a jack on the rear jack point for whatever reason. I have pics somewhere, I'll try to find them.

Here's a pic. There are some cross members with holes in them. I put the jack right across this in between the holes. The are a little to the interior of the car, but very accessible.
