Another coolant hose thing to check ...
So I was at Le Circuit Mont Tremblant for the past 2 days and was a passenger on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride after the coolant hose to the transmission cooler ruptured dumping water/water wetter all over my loaded driver's side tire as I was just starting my entry in to Turn 7 which is a fast off camber right hand sweeper.
Well it was an exciting ride. I somehow kept it on the grass on the inside of the corner and there really isn't much grass there.
After I got a tow into the pits I looked for the leak (steam was reported coming out of the driver's side rear by the Chris R. behind me and the car steamed as I waited in the grass for a tug) water pissed out of the coolant hose to the transmission above the driver's side driveshaft (pictured below #46-03) which had ruptured.
A Porsche tech was there and he mentioned that there should be a special double heavy duty tie wrap which holds this hose out of the way of the driveshaft. Well on my car that special tie wrap was gone, the hose came in contact with the drivershaft and wore through. Then Blammo!!! Hot shower on my tire. He also mentioned that he would recommend that tie wrap be replaced every couple of years.
At the minimum check it, or have someone check it, before every event.

Here are a couple of pics of Crazy Canuck and I before he had his little "off" in front of me in turn 7. No damage or drama.

This exact same thing happened to me at the GLEN about two weeks ago. Luckily it didn't cause any incidents and was at the end of the session. The teeth on the zip tie wrap just wore through. Given that its a $1 part, its definitely something worth replacing regularly.

Thanks for the info. I'm taking my car to Goldcrest in two days to get the fittings welded up and to change all of the rubber in the cooling system, including this one.

Glad to hear the car is in good shape with no permanent damage! I think "rubber" is my biggest worry living in the high desert (coolant lines, brake lines, etc.). I am quite **** about doing checks and double checks!
Thanks for the post/reminder.

(BTW - the vanity plate "NO PSM" is a keeper. Nailed it!)

Glad to hear all is well. Random question, what wing is that on the back of your car. Looks great! I'm looking to replace my stock wing with something like this. Did you replace your entire decklid or just bolt on the wing?
Thanks!
Thanks!
