Default 6GT3 vs 991S

This is about as hyperbolic a post as I'll ever post, but the 16 year old gear head in me cannot resist.

Is this seriously true? Baytown drag-strip is eerily calling my name (for all you Houston boys out there...)

Super interesting. Fast gear change and power vs. aerodynamics. The 996 is more narrow.

My experience messing around with a friend who has a 991 S was that the 2004 GT3 was quicker all-round at any speed or gear. Not by much though!

The gearing and shifting helped the 991S in the lower speed.. you can see the 996 GT3 was pulled pretty badly during the 2nd to 3rd upshift.. (at 120km/h both cars were even, but then by the time 991S went to 218km/h, GT3 was only at 208km/h)

In North America, how often do you drive over 250kmph?

I've yet to drive a 991 but it seems to me that on the basis of pure acceleration, the 991S could be more 'fun' than the GT3... Oh and this comes from someone how owns a 6GT3.

fun vid but i imagine it would be better to do that with a GPS speedo...
those differences are within the std deviation of the speedos

If you have a chance to track or right seat a tracked 991S, you'll be amazed.

^ True. I had one recently with the PDCC, the active anti-roll system/bars.. Generally, I can read body roll compared to turn in angle and correct without looking over at the driver. With that system, there was no body roll to read via butt-dyno. The only way to check steering angle to entry speed was to look at the driver. That said, I doubt the driver could have done anything to spin the car without going totally mental on corner entry. So it was an exercise in case he changed cars or for 'sake of completeness', lol.... Flat and fast. A lot of car.

This of course is a really cool post !Especially for all of us 996 GT3 owners.I started wondering about the torque curves of the two cars and my guess is that the 991s is optimized for street driving ie;torque early in the curve and the 6 GT3 is optimized for high speed stuff like a long quick track like The Ring or my favorite VIR.So you would find the GT3 making its best torque towards the top end of the powerband .No idea if that's correct and would love to hear from those more knowledgeable than me!
