Anyone own both Cayman R and 996gt3?

Thanks for the great feedback guys. Reason I'm asking is I'm having a hard time finding a nice gt3 (either 996 or low priced 997.1) and there's quite a few CR's available in the right color, options, and mileage that are priced right between the 996 and 997.1 gt3. I'm just wondering if the CR, being the more modern car and also mid engine platform, capable of equaling at least the 996gt3 in performance and fun.

On my TraqMate data I was bouncing the rev limiter in 4th 146mph and the Cayman R was hitting 143 according to his data which was Harrys lap Timer Pro. I think the PDK R was as close as it was is because I had 2 shifts 2/3/4 which allowed the faster shifting shorter geared R a significant adv especially on the slow 6GT3 2 to 3 shift.

I think the question you need to ask yourself is, can you tolerate the .6gt3 for driving (even as a DD) on our lovely streets and highways here in the Bay area? Also, do you track enough to need the higher capability of the .6gt3?
That and your wife's approval of course. I'm single so that's a non-issue

OP: I've seen several of your threads with the desire to purchase a GT3. I guess none of us have ever asked what the intended purpose of the car is for you, what your track background is, etc.
Cayman R is an outstanding car. Could be a great fit and def. worth driving if you're not convinced one way or the other.

Peter, what tire? always wondered how close I am to the limiter in my car. I'm over what it should be on the stock tire but obviously running a taller than stock tire too

That was on 315 NT01's on the rear.

I'll check my data and tire diameter, but my video from COTA shows 149 and a few hundred RMP to go in 4th. Running pirelli scrubs.
edit: 148.6 MPH, 8033 PRM. Although other laps show 147/148 running closer to 8200. Never new it had so much variation.

How good a driver are you on a scale of 1 (novice) to 5 (near pro level)? If you are a 3 or less, you will most likely be faster in the Cayman R, especially on tight, technical tracks due to better balance and the close ratio PDK. If you are a 4 or 5, the 6 GT3 is the way to go.
I'm looking for weekend car I can take out and romp on. Track someday if the car's value drops significantly or maybe if there's some good beginner track days at a nearby track where I can hang in the back and not hit anyone or have someone hit me.

I'll give myself a 1 since I've never tracked before. Just aggressive on open empty curvy roads and can deal with a rear sliding out.

Umm, you can't really go wrong. The cayman is so easy, but still rewarding, that it's a good choice. Only pick the gt3 if difficult and less comfortable are pluses for you. Sadly for me, those things are, someday...

T2 at TH is MUCH easier in cayman
T2 at SP is easier in cayman as well, but T3 and onward is same.
which car is faster, that's the wrong question. if you want a fast car, buy wrx, z06, porsche are not all that fast, really. i have many.
the correct question is CR and 6gt3 and 7.1gt3, which feels better.
then the answer would be they feel DIFFERNET not better.
i dont have CR, but had three CS. one was track prepped.
you have to drive the two cars, very different.
my brain loves cayman
my heart loves gt
should you care about dep'n, in order of money lost
6gt3
7.1gt3
