From 996 C2 to 996.2 GT3
I have a 996 C2 that I have spent a bunch of money turning into a nice GT3 wanna-be (JRZ, Tarett, GT3 bars, etc).
My question for those of you moving from 996 land to 996 GT3 land is what can I expect in terms of increased annual expense. My car does 5-8 HPDE weekends, but is meticulously maintained. It costs me about $5k a year to maintain it well as a street/track car. Obviously that doesn't include upgrades.
I've been reading the great contributions from this thread and getting up to speed, so I'm educated on what to expect/buy, but this is a question I have not addressed. I have heard from some that the maintenance isn't much different and others that it is 2-3x more.

Roughly the same, some things like brakes and tyres are bigger so cost more but fundamentals are the same.
I went through the same transition, high modded C2 to GT3. Do it!

Although some of the parts for the GT3 are more expensive, consumables run about the same. Maybe a few bucks more, but not much. For me, things last longer on the GT3 and don't need constant attention to make sure they are working right. I actually found "normal" maintenance to be less expensive with the GT3. With my C2, it was in the shop after every event for something. Especially since the car was all Frankenstein'd out. Check the suspension, do the alignment, brake flush/bleed, oil change, something.
After everything is taken into consideration [all the upgrades to make a C2 behave like a GT3, but not a GT3], I am pretty convinced that it is cheaper to own the GT3.

Now I just have to sell my 996 C2 and the search for a 996.2 GT3 begins

brakes and tires cost more... you will end up Guard LSD, light weight flywheel. and you will want to find more track days because the car is un fr&*king believable.
I remember when I traded in my 2002 C2 and drove home in the 2004 GT3. The first time I drove the GT3 was the day it was delivered. I am not sure if I got out of 3rd gear on the freeway. The sound in the cabin at >5,500RPM is intoxicating.

Fantastic. You are making my dream car sound even better. Best yet, i'm not hearing a lot of complaints a mile long of things to watch for. LSD, FMS, RMS seem to be the biggies on the 996.2 GT3.

You're biggest expense will be fuel. You'll find your annual fuel bill will double or even treble...

I had mine for 60,000 miles and about 20,000 of it was track. never a single failure. replaced front rotors only PCCB once( dealer made a deal so it cost me $2500
