I think that the various 997 GT3s will take a hit, but not the 996. It competes in a different space, and therefore I predict that value will increase for our beloved.

Watched the EVO video of the Preuninger interview, and I am totally on board with the 991 GT3. 997.2 GT3 was a possible future purchase for me, but the 991 has now made a serious dent in that plan... for when I am ready for a less "hard-core" or rather, track-only car.

I'll probably wait and see how the 991 gt3 does on track before making the plunge. Sounds like the 9a1 case is pretty robust with putting gt3 internals inside- wait and see. Probably won't puke coolant as well. Just hoping it hasn't lost it's feel totally. My 6 is here to stay with me : ). Mike

I'm sure it'll do great on track, probably faster than a 4.0RS. I'm more interested to see how well it holds up over time - especialy in the hands of owners who track it frequently and vigorously. The 991 has completely new engine internals, a much higher redline, new DFI system, new gearbox, new e-steering programming, rear wheel steering, new centerlocks, new electronics, new algorithms, etc. That's a lot of new stuff to unleash into the wilds of racetracks around the world. It has much more fundamentally new content relative to the 997.2 GT3 than the 997.1 had relative to the 996.2. It'll be interesting to see how it all holds up over time. I hope it lives up to the GT3's robust reputation.

This board is biased, but I really think that today is a GREAT Day for the 996 GT3. I have no doubt that the 991gt3 is faster than any GT3 before it, but after reading all the electronic aids, least of which is rear wheel steering and ONLY PDK????? I seriously believe that the 996 GT3 has staying power as a pure/raw track car.

Is anyone here qualified to fix any of the new gadgets on the 991 GT3? The 6 is so simple yet proven. Will the 2-5th owner be willing to spend the big $$ to fix the 991 GT3s electronic aids? Can an indy shop do it? Yet to be seen.

I don't know if the value of a 6 went up today, but it certainly didn't go down.

I agree. The 996 GT3 is a fantastic track car and all you need out of the Porsche GT series if you're buying a "track-only" car. The newer GT3s don't really offer anything more in terms of track capability...they are just faster.

I disagree. The 996GT3 has been an AMAZING street car for me. I will own another one and I am very sad to see mine go. 12K miles in 9 months commuting in Washington DC traffic, weekend get-aways down the Blue Ridge Parkway, or trips around town. In stock form, it is simply magical.

I'm not taking away anything from the 996... I put 15k miles in the first year owning my 996 too, mainly driving around town, weekend getaways, etc. And I enjoyed every minute of it as you did.

The intent of my post is that the latest iterations of the GT3 do not give you more in terms of track capability, even though they are faster. So, if you want a car to mainly enjoy on the track, I don't see the value in "upgrading." In my opinion, it would be financially wasteful.

That being said, the 997s are much better at doing everything away from the track.

Now I agree 110% with you. My next 996GT3 will be bought with the intention of tracking it full time. Just need to be patient with the business I'm in and wait a while before i jump back in the game.

The car looks good to me, no surprises. Its not like some cars that look quite different in person, this one looked as I expected from pictures. Wing and back-end look good. I don't like the wheels, or centerlocks. Front bumper inlets are really big, reminds me of a turbo, its quite busy and I don't love it. Mirrors attached to doors are cool. Overall I really like it.
