Default What roller chassis to look for for rebuild?

After balling up my car late last fall, I have to seriously start thinking about my options in rebuilding the car.
Right rear hit with bent frame/horn.

I am thinking that possibly getting a roller and grafting over all the good stuff (suspension and drivetrain) from my car may be a better option especialky with the fact that I am ready to live with a stripper/track only car.

QUESTION... Can I graft all the important parts onto any C2 or C4, mkI or mkII?

Cheers all.
David.

But I think you should get a 6.2 c4s body and transplant all the parts into that.

Frame can be straightened, however i was just thinking if it would be more cost efficient and in the end better to just find a roller chassis and transplant all my stuff onto that.

It would probably be more cost efficient to straighten your current tub. If you use the C4, the rear chassis will need to be modified at the oil tank location and motor mount location, not tho mention the additional strengthening modifications the factory did for the GT3.

Dave,

Besides some of the other stuff mentioned above, there could be a host of other issues you'd have to work out, such as the fuel pump, that's different; electronics are different. You could find yourself chasing a host of issues. If your ready to go track only if may to easier to strip, straighten and cage what you got.

Just a thought.

Sorry to hear Dave.. agree with others on fixing the existing tub, although the idea of creating the ultimate 996 GT3 w/ a widebody shell does cross my mind.. !

Dave another RSR member had his car straightened like new at Mark Motors in Ottawa. Similar hit to yours.

They're typically called frame rails, and they can indeed be cut out and replaced. You can buy new rails from Porsche and have them spot welded into the tub.

When you consider the amount of labor it would take to transplant into a donor, it may certainly be cheaper to repair.

I think I remember reading that Porsche pulled the C4 tubs off the line and did additional welding/stiffening to the tub before adding the GT3 components.

Dave, I'll second the thought about the repair. Give Marc G a call if you wish, he's got a good eye, knowledgeable buddies, and has done this before. I can put you in touch if you want.

Build a real track car.
