Looking for advice on remote purchase of GT3: can it be saved?

Hi all,
I'll keep the intro short: first post, avid reader for almost a year, just upgraded membership, and am finally close to a life-long dream of owning a wicked Porsche. I'm Canadian (Vancouver, BC) and my search seems to take me all over North America for a sweet 996 GT3.
I've found this one: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lgb...540332024.html
Which seems like one of the lowest listing prices ($45k) I've seen.
I managed to find the dealership listing it: http://www.stasales.com/vehicle-deta...e-911-gt3.html
and they've gotten terrible reviews on Yelp: http://www.yelp.ca/biz/sports-trend-...s-sherman-oaks
Also, the car has traded many times with dealerships according to the carfax (apparently due to failed emissions tests): http://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistory...&partner=AMG_1
All signs seem to indicate that this car has problems - being remotely located it makes it hard to understand the extent of these problems.
And to the key question: Is it worth getting a PPI done at a reputable dealership or are the likely issues well beyond any potential discount?
Thanks,
Sean

I test drove that car. Posted up a quick review.
It's had some panels painted, not particularly poorly. Drivers seat is really worn. Paint is a little rough.
I did see on the carfax that it had issues passing emissions. The exhaust looked stock, and the motor pulled strong.

I'd say not worth it at ask price, remember a US car needs to be imported-6%duty IIRC that must be paid +travel expenses + the unknowns....

A purchase this high (i.e., $50K+) you do not want to find a bargain. Spend a little more to get a prime example. All too often the "cheap" examples end up costing more in the long run.

+1. I guess the only exception would be if you want to build a track rat but even then I'm not sure I'd be using a 75k mile car as a starting point for a track build.

[QUOTE=mistermct;10152823]Thanks Paulunm - I'm guessing this is your review; why did you not dig any deeper?
Yes, that's the one. I'm not really in the market- But I've been wanting to experience a GT3 compared to my turbo.
I don't track, and now know I prefer the power delivery of the turbo over the GT3 (on the street at least). I might add a GT3 to the stable someday, but I wouldn't trade my 35k mile turbo for that GT3.
The test drive did however convince me that I need to do a coilover upgrade- that car on Motons was so much more supple on our crappy, cement expansion joint freeways than my stock suspension.
