High speed understeer

I am running an 04 GT-3 which of course is lovely but I find that the biggest limitation to better track times is high speed understeer .I run the car a lot at VIR and the area I have the most of understeer is in the uphill Esses
I am using 800lb F 1050lb R and The Motion Control doubles .
I have tried more rake which has helped and also am using the Goldcrest Front Splitter.
I may be completely incorrect about this but most other 3-6 owners seem to be more concerned about oversteer which is only an issue for me ocasionally .
Last is anyone running a front strut bar on their 996 GT-3 and does it help with turn in and understeer? On such a stiff chassis I wonder if it is worthwhile TIA HOM

HOM, what are your front and rear sway bar setting? Stiffing up the rear will generally reduce understeer, certainly in slower corners, not sure in high speed such as the VIR esses.

You're probably better off with understeer than oversteer anyway, and I don't think that a strut bar will do much.
How good do you feel your throttle timing is on the way up? You have to help the car rotate.

Too much front springs. Sway bar setting are definitely impacting, but I like a car with a stiff front bar and 500f/700 or 800 rear springs. As other's have said, understeer is perferable for many over snap oversteer. You can drive around understeer if setup properly. That also requires a highly functional LSD...

Tom, you really need a pro to setup the car. You also need to run a better and proper size tire!!! Your suspension is way too good for the crap *** r888. As has been said, you already have a front strut bat, it's the same as the Cups and under the plastic covers. Proper tires, setup, and rear wing and that car will be transformed.

To answer some of the thoughtful questions offered .When I put the MCS remotes on I transitioned from Full soft Front full stiff rear to full soft all the way around !The car just felt more nimble and grippier.I think the suggestion to lower the front spring rate is a good one and will look into it.Dell as you know the Triple 8s are terrible and am planning to try something else do you think the NT 01s are going to offer more grip ?Sometimes I feel like the street tires I run aren't too much worse than the Triple 8s!
Someone said that understeer is better than oversteer and frankly with the current set up the car is the most benign it's ever been .The only place at VIR that I think its leaving something on the table is the uphill Esses and that ,of course, is the most fun and challenging part of VIR .Thanks again HOM

1. dump the 888. they are no better than the tires on my 3 year olds tricycle. i much rather stop driving if i have to use 888. your car will never drive right with those.
2. refer to #1
3. refer to #1 again
4. after you fixed #1-3, then have a pro set the car up for YOU.

This has been my constant quest for the last couple of years an affordable tire that is stickier than the triple 8 .I have run everything except the Nittos .The Hoosiers R6 are out of my consumable budget I have tried the R-1s and although I would try em again didn't like that hard side wall,THE BIG QUESTION is the Kuhmos they seem to be pretty sticky, but less so than the Hoosiers I am hearing anywhere from 28-40 HC in De with judicious flipping .What do you guys think?OH what about CTSCC slicks got a source at 800 a set new but no clue if there are any sizes that will fit the 996 GT-3 .as always thanks for your help HOM

You will love the NT-01s, i run 245/40ZR18 NT01
315/30ZR18 NT01. I just rotate side to side depending on track directions and turns.

Same to more grip, NT-01s are an "R" compound. The real value is many many many more heat cycles and predictable feel all the way tell cording.

How many sets of rims do you have? If you can mount a new set of Nittos to a set of rims put the new Nittos on the front and leave the R888 on the rear. My thought is that you will then experience a shift from understeer to oversteer just from that change. Then mount your rear Nittos and see what you get. Make one change at a time. On the 6 GT3 tire choices make a HUGE difference.
What are your front and rear sway bar settings at right now? For a high speed track like VIR I would imagine a stiffer bar up front and rear bar at a soft setting would work best, but you have to see where you are at to get a baseline.
How long have you had this car? How long has you driven a rear engined car?
