41K miles, and my car just passed smog here in CA, so cats are fine.

Not that I'm in danger but if my cats ever go bad, I'm hollowing them out.

BTW.. I have a set of 997.1 gt3 headers/cats I'll sell for $800.

Besides CEL they will start rattling on startup as they break loose inside. My 05GT3 cats gave up the ghost at 24k miles and the 04 I have now were going bad when I got the car with 43k miles.

My car is primarily used as a daily driver and since my ownership and 15K Miles I had a set go bad, here in FL no smog = easy fix + ECU flash to get rid of the light.

If the cats are gutted, can a Durametric "fix" the CEL?

So if you remove the internal parts of the cat:
1) you can get the CEL light to go off and stay off?
2) any difference with sound or performance?

Fabspeed o2 spacer would eliminate without a tune. See pic below.

Probably a little, but I wouldn't go out of my way to do it.

Durametric will reset it, it will come back every other week or so. I had EPL reflash the car and delete the Rear 02 CEL light and do a performance tune at the same time. The tune makes a slight difference, but the real benefit is no more CEL lights.

Slightly louder, but not obnoxious by any means, no drone (Europipe setup now with the cats gutted).

Which Europipe do you have - street or track version? I've got the street version, and haven't had any issues with the cats so far. Did you gut them in response to a failure, or just for better flow? And did you need to replace the empty can with a straight pipe? Once before on a previous car I gutted a cat and got an irritating ringing sound at certain RPM's, caused by turbulence inside the empty can. It went away by straight-piping the can.

As you found out gutted cats are like expansion chambers, good on 2 Strokes but bad on 4 Strokes

Are the 997.1 GT3 header the same as 997.2?
