Pictures of Ram Air Scoop

Attached are some pictures of the ram air scoop that Jack at Euro Pros Collision in Rockville, MD installed for me. He took the part from FVD that really doesn't fit well at all and custom molded it onto the rear deck lid. He spent a lot of time making it look OEM and I think it came out great.

Nicely done! I like the white. I am having my CF unit from Getty installed in the near future. He does the same thing; fits it to a GT3 engine deck lid before he ships.

That is the result of a true craftsman!

That's what I'd hope to see. Glad I saw this thread before ordering, because I'd have assumed FVD would send a properly fitting piece... Looks like I'll be sitting this one out until maybe I see the Getty unit mounted up. I could see going CF on my Seal Gray...

Cool.. Custom molded!!

That looks great!!! I just purchased the FVD unit for my car, and it's going to take a lot of work to make it fit properly. I'll show my body shop your pictures. Thanks!

We carry a cargraphics CF version that is a very nice fit.

Looks like the cup car scoop I have from getty on my car.

Thanks all. I was amazed that Jack was able to get it to look like a factory piece after seeing how poorly it lined up on the deck lid when it arrived from FVD. I'm pretty sure that he didn't come close to charging me for all of the time he spent on it. He did an RS bumper for me at the same time so I paid for everything together.

FVD piece fitment is poo - we'v discssued this

I think it is a piece by piece issue? I remember reading about someone installed it using tape and due to the piece being slightly tweaked, one side edge was coming up after awhile?

For my case, I had the shop install the scoop toward the back a little bit (flatter surface), enlarge the inlet holes on the deck, and had the scoop permanently glued to the deck (instead of using just the tape), and didn't have problem that way.

That's some quality work you've got there, so is the scoop sitting on the bodywork or is it bonded somehow.

I'm sure it has, but some of us are new to the 6GT3 and haven't seen this previously.

The poor fitment of the FVD ram air piece has definitely been discussed before. I decided to take my chances since it wasn't that expensive. Unfortunately, I was fairly disappointed when I received the part and tried to test fit it to the deck lid. If you place it where it's supposed to go, the end pieces that curve forward towards the front of the car do not follow the curve of the deck lid and stick way up, creating a gap underneath. I was pretty much ready to throw the part out or return it, but my body shop guy said he could make it work and indeed he did. It is now completely molded into the rear deck lid as if it came that way from the factory. I don't necessarily recommend this approach as the labor ends up costing way more than the part. Since I did the RS bumper at the same time, there were some economies of scale involved. However, a better fitting piece would probably require less labor to achieve a similar result. Regardless, I am happy.

What I don't know is if there is any actual pressure increase in the airbox at speed resulting in a horsepower bump. I think the factory RS ram air was supposed to give around 10 hp at 100 mph and this 'looks' similar, so I'm thinking there should be some benefit but I'm not in any position to measure it.

I don't know whether there's horsepower gain or not, but it definitely creates some extra induction sound... !
