Wheel studs

longer stud isn't why they break. the breakage is usually at the hub area. not all studs are designed correctly. it's more than just a stick with grooves on them. some are VERY expensive studs.
bolts have advantages and disadvantages as well. you can't ride wild offsets b/c the bolt isn't long enough.

I've had RUF studs on my car for the last 7 years. I just changed them all out last year as a precaution. RUF sent me a new set and they are H&R studs which are available here in the US in various lengths and fairly cheap. I have never had a single problem and the car sees the track a lot.

Had issues last year, and broke 3 on separate occasions. Took them all off and threw them out (they were only a month old).
Spoke to Apex, who told me that they had a new and improved stud coming this year, so I waited. Got the new Pro-Studs, and have not broken one yet.
Never did find out why they broke last year.

Studs are just another component to monitor and can break from user error or part failure. I have seem many cars over the years sidelined because one broke and are pain in the rear to get it out. The marginal benefit is not worth the risk and monitoring for me.

Studs are just like the poster above referenced. They are a Motorsports item with cycle life and you never get more than you pay for. That said on our new GT2 AJ has selected studs due to cycle issues. Manufacturer is MSI racing products.
They are used in NASCAR and Grand-Am.
Cost is higher but as I seem to rember this is what holds the wheels onto my car at high and low speed turns, not a good time to scrimp IMHO

Never intended to indicate that anyone was worry about cost. Instead I was stating that since so many seem to be having problems there are high end products that others might want to consider. Since these resources are sometimes difficult to find I was simply sharing the resource so each could consider options. In my case that just knowing the high end options are out there and used by pro teams makes me more comfortable with my choice.

This is what I have. So far, so good... but who knows.
