993 to 996 GT3 "upgrade"?
I've been thinking about "upgrading" my 993 C4 to a 996 GT3 and wanted to throw a couple questions out to the group:
1. I'm seeing members changing from pccb to steel, and others from steel to pccb so I'm confused if this option is considered in the "plus" column for a 996 GT3 (I'd be using the car for DEs, open track days and runs up the canyon - nothing any more competitive than that).
2. Have any members taken a look at or know anything about the black '05 in Newark DE or the white '04 in Berryville VA?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

That black one in DE is overpriced compared to what it would go for on here. I'd expect to pay that for one with half the miles and a much less strange ownership history.
It is gorgeous though. I was looking at it earlier today.

Thanks Chuck. I'm really glad I threw the question out there, I would have assumed just the opposite - that Porsche put the PCCBs on the GT3 precisely because they WERE going to be tracked...
PS Love your white 6/3 - I just missed out on the white one that was listed in VA.

That being said, I've never experienced any brake fade with steel even in the hottest conditions.

+1 to all previous replied. PCCBs are GREAT at the track, but the cost of replacing the pads/rotors was ridiculously expensive (as discussed above). Also - the 996.2 GT3 had "Gen 1" PCCBs and they were not working "as advertised" with some chunking on early models (use Rennlist search to find those threads from 2004/2005)... Later generations are much better, but the cost has not come down enough for the DE crowd. And besides, with track pads (PFCs, Pagid, etc.) and steel rotors - these cars have PLENTY of bite at a more economical price point...

I was considering the one in Berryville and emailed back and forth with the guy who was selling it for the owner. I didn't go see the car, which was less than 2 hours from my home, and opted to have a Seal Gray GT3 shipped to me from California instead. The main reason was the listed price on the White one. Quite honestly these cars are selling in the $50s. Squarely, in the $50s. Mods seem not to matter. So keep that in mind as you shop.

Thanks to all for the input - all very informative and helpful! Probably the key aspect of this educational process has been to alleviate my fears of giving up the fairly desirable 993 for a car that I didn't have a clue what the market was for that particular model - but I've now watched 7 cars get sold in the less than 2 months since I started this process... And I now have a much better understanding of the pricing based on miles, owners, condition, mods, etc (thanks for reaffirnming Mikelly). Great forum! Thanks again.

I'm also thinking of making the switch from a 993 to a GT3...
An international move has forced the sale of my beloved, track prepped 993 (see signature) and now I have the opportunity to buy something else around the $50K USD/Cdn range.
Originally, I was thinking of an RSA or a project 964 but I don't think it makes much sense as a GT3 will be close in price and pretty much good to go as long as it's bought with the right options.
BTW, anyone have any leads in Canada (Ontario)?? I see quite a few active Canadian based GT3's owners here so it looks like there must be a good club/community?

Not sure where you will be in Ontario, but yes, there is a very active and healthy track scene, with a few very nice and historic tracks. Season is relatively short, but as they say, "so is life, but if you do it right, once is enough".
Feel free to pm or e-mail me if you need any help or local guidance. I would be happy to point you in the right direction.
However, you might find that a nicely setup GT3 will be a bit more money.
