Default Radiator Grills...

I've done these now on three different 996s, and actually three times on one of them, the 996TT we converted to GT2.

Takes about three hours start to finish, and you need to remove the wheels, inner fender liners, trunk release trim, and of course the front bumper.

My shop mascot decided to come out of hiding...

Really hope he doesn't decide to make a home in the Zcar... Would be terribly inconvenient for it to pop out and say "hi" on the back straight at VIR!!

is that size mesh not too large and allow considerable large rocks the opportunity to inflict damage to rads ??

Nope. Never had an issue with the other car setups. They were appart regularly for inspections and working on the car and I never had track rubber or any rocks in the openings.

Are those grills part of some kit, or did you fab them from raw material? I'd like to buy something to give my local shop to install on my car.

I bought a 2X4 Sheet from http://www.customcargrills.com/ and just cut it to fit. 3 hours start to finish, but as I said above, this is the 5th or 6th time I've done this on a 996 platform. I have a DIY on how I do the install somewhere.

What I'd like to figure out is how to attach it to the underside of the rear lid opening... I'm sure epoxy of some type in the high temp range would do it.

Black Urethane used for windshield installation. If you plan on doing a few cars you are better of buying a 4X8 sheet of extruded aluminum(various size openings are available) and have it powder coated black. Extruded steel could also be used because it is stronger but is heavier.

I have the Cargrpahic grills, and just noticed the paint is peeling. What to use to repaint aluminum?

BTW, anyone in the Bay Area wants to do a DIY, I have the grill material that I bought at Orchard Supply a couple of years back. Didn't use it as I got the Cargraphic units from a fellow RLer.

The pics of the mesh make it look larger in opening than it does, but I can't pass a dime through the openings. Also, I bought the sheet of powdercoated aluminum mesh in the size I did because I don't plan to do anymore. I'll keep the excess around the shop for the "occassion" when I need it, but don't expect to get into it much.

Of course, if I open my own shop, then all bets are off and I'll get a 4X8 sheet send over.

I used a SS wire mesh and powdercoated it. It was a bitch to bend, but it's really strong stuff.
