Need a new street tire. I was using Nitto NT01s as my backup track tire and street tire for some weekend driving in the rolling hills. That being said I was getting the feeling that my Nittos had less available HCs than I would have expected. Was wondering if my street driving was impacting the count.

Side question: Since I can't get PSS should I go with Ps2 or something else like an R888 or Hankook? I don't put much miles on the street but when I drive I tend to drive with enthusiasm....

I second that. I run them on an M3 and they are a sensational tyre for the road.

It was confirmed in another thread that they don't make them for our cars. Tirerack doesn't list them for our cars as well for presumably the same reason. I hope this is wrong bc I would love to get them.

I've run a couple of sets of NT-01's on previous street/track cars. Can't say that I ever cycled them out. Usually hit cords on track first, still with tons of grip. Know other folks with similar experience.

I'm using the Sumitumo HTRZ3. The NT01s I have are now in the car trailer. They're great tires for grip, but to damned loud for me on the street. They howl like crazy. The HTRZ3 isn't as good on grip, but only by a small margin. And they're cheap. This is the 3rd set I've run and the 2nd set on a 996 Porsche.

I'm actually goiing to run the NT01s on the Datsun V8 Z track ratt when I cord the Hoosiers.

If they are only going to be street tires, then +1 to the Sumi or Hankooks; expensive street tires just don't make sense IMO.

Now, if they are going to be double-duty street and track, then the other tire mentioned make more sense.

I run Hankooks on the street (link) and drive to the track (~1 hour to VIR, and ~4 to CMP) on the NT01, which like Mike said are loud, but not unbearable for relatively short trips.

Can't really speak of the others, but I like the MPS Cups. Only problem is a tendency to hydroplane. Otherwise, they last and can be used at the track very nicely.

Thanks for the responses. This was for street only. Seems like it's a toss up between the Hankook and Sumitomos. No need for expensive street tires since I need funds for tires at the track. Done with the NT01s. Their performance seemed to drop off for me after 20 HC where as I can squeeze out almost 15 with the R6s...plus my car setup is better suited for the R6s.

Interesting, I've just ordered my first set of Nittos based on a lot of positive comments from owners of our cars. I was under the impression that, with the NT-01s, the fastest lap is the last lap before they cord...?

Hoosiers have been good but a bit finicky, so was looking to try something else. Both tires are the same price up here.

I guess I'll find out eventually.

Odd. Had ~36 HC on my last set of NT01's and was still running consistent times.

+1 re the Nittos. I'm on my 5th set and I have got 40+ track HC's (not including about 500 street kms) out of each set before seeing cords - always on the rears. I've never had them HC out, and their grip improves with the number of HC's. To get that far, I have to keep swapping the rears side to side and run them inside out on the wheels when they become (almost) slick to balance the wear. It's a bit of work to squeeze that much life out of them, but worth it IMO. Set up for sure will also have an influence. Other than the first 3 or 4 HC's, I love the Nittos. Great bang for the buck track tire. YMMV
