Have y'all actually tried both sets (Hankooks and Sumi's)? I have tested both out and can tell you the REARS on the kooks are stiffer than the Sumi's and have a higher load rating. The Sumi's have a much lower load rating and not the better choice.
I think the issue you are missing Andy is the M3 has a near perfect weight distribution where as the GT3 has a much more rear weight bias (~63%) and needs a higher load rating rear tire. The Sumi's don't have that.
