The other side of that coin: I don't have to change my rotors 12 times

I throw my rotors out after 15 days. Not because they need it, because they're so cheap so why not? You "might" get 20.

Thanks.

Yes, they are more expensive Andrew, but they save unsprung weight, and for the second set, you can buy just the discs sans hat for some additional $avings.

As always its a multitude of factors. I'm also at 20+ days, but I am not using the most aggressive pads, I'm not winning my DE (), I don't drive on tracks that are known to be hard on the brakes, and I have more than standard cooling, not to mention driving style. Do works best for you, we're just exchanging info.

Coleman Racing can supply the replacements for those GIROs at a very attractive price point, making the initial investment worth it. I had them make up that exact friction surface for me for about $350 per pair for the fronts.

Thanks Francois...

Fronts/Rears
- ATE: 27 lbs / 23??
- Brembo floaters: 21.5 lbs / 17.5??
- Stock: 25.6 lbs / 22.1 (assuming Giro advert above is 'correct')
- Giro floaters: 22.4 lbs / 18.2

Assuming unsprung = 4x equivalent x 4 corners .. (read somewhere on RL)
Giro vs stock = 51 lbs 'adjusted' difference!
Vs ATE ... More like 80!

PLEASE CORRECT ME if I've got a wrong number!

Mike

3 questions...

Are they heavier?

Do they last as long?

Why not just buy the hats from giro without their discs to begin with and get your discs from Coleman?

Answers:

1. I don't have that car anymore, but when I weighed them, they were about 2 pounds lighter than the OEM 996TT brake rotor.

2. I got 30 DEs out of the first set and had two spare NEW sets when I sold the car.

3. Coleman can make you the hats as well... Since I already had a set of aftermarkets for my 996TT, I was able to just send them one to copy the pattern off of, but they quoted me $1100 for the first pair (including hardware and custom hats in floating or non-floating and drilled or slotted, your choice) and the friction rings were $350 per pair to replace, and that was in the 350MM size.

I have no clue if GIRO would sell you just the hats.

ATE = 100#'s as per your figures
Giro floater = 81.2#'s as per you figures

Now the value of loosing 18.8# of unsprung rotating weight is subject to many valuations. I am not racing so for me the cost of inexpensive front rotors far out weighs the benefits of running Giro's. YMMV IMHO

No question the survey agrees w you 85G ... Most likely for the same reason too.

I may have missed it, but here is another 'slotted' option; RL sponsor as well (link)

PFC 2-piece system front-PFC 06 pads
Cup rear-PFC 06 but will try 01s soon.

I run the pads tell very thin and they feel great.
Tires are Nitto NT-01s.

System works and feel great for me so I will stick with it.
