My guess would be (1)not a PFC hat unless it was stressed really hard to turn that color...and even then I'm not sure it would. (2)that user error could have lead to that..meaning the the hardware wasn't torqued properly and then once it moved within the hat, the integrity was compromised. Other than that, not sure what to say. Of course, this is purely my opinion based on a picture.

I can't really complain though as these were on their last legs although wear markers still have 25% left.

Anyone ever seen this type of failure before?? Gladly felt a subtle but clear lack of braking ability and picked up a new/squeaky noise
so came in .... only to find this today.
The hat ring was touched by the wrong seize pad?
The hats may be the wrong ones, not matching the pads..

I'm assured they were black when bought and added to the car by PO ...
turned gold through heat ... used for 2 years about monthly for 30-40min a month in sprint races
ie 2x10x2 = 40 10 lap races on a 2005 996 Cup

The dual nut/bolt on the hat doesn't look like other pics I have of PFC so I'm not
100% sure myself but PO is very experienced guy so I doubt he remembered wrong ..

but I was more keen on finding out if anyone has even seen this kind of failure
as I haven't seen/read about anything like it .. anyways, thanks for the comments
40 sessions is not that much in DE but a CUP on slicks?
They look worse than any rotor I ever threw out..

These also make sense.

What does the inner edge of the outer pad backing plate look like? tough to tell from the picture, angle, etc, but it kind of looks like as the pad wore down the backing plate may have made contact with the bolt/nut combo.

Still not convinced that a black annodized aluminum would turn gold from heat. Purple has been observed a lot in black annodized wheels, but not gold.

I would be surprised if those are factory PFC hats.

What a sec, I think I totally missed the obvious. Are those Pagid19/29 pads (yellow)??? If so, they will NOT fit using the PFC 2-piece setup and will make contact with the hat hardware. That very well may be the source of the problem. Pad wears down, solid plate make contact with hardware, and KABLAMO!

But you probably meant Pagid pads.

Does anyone have experience with running Alcon 362mm fronts and PF08 pads?

Default DeMan Rotors

Still the best in my opinion... Ive seen over 50 track days on these and still looked OK, but replaced because of basic maintenance and cost.. $ for $ the best buy..

A full Alcon set up is a different thread. 08 pads work GREAT with Rick's rotors.

ok an update after some digging. Turns out the discs are newer than the hats!
Discs were ordered ... one hat went missing so they re-used the old hat on this (broken) side.
By my rough calcs that means the hats were 3-4 yrs (40-50 sprints) old. And seen pics - they were black before ... so heat will turn them gold and kill the anodising it seems ... eventually.

So I must apologise for anyone being scared/scarred re my comments on PFC.
I've been very happy/successful with the rotors ... just need a new set of hats!!
