What is the proper way to burn and shave off pick up rubber from a used slick tire.
Bought a heat gun and putty knife but wander how hot you have to go. Don't want to overheat them.

Playing with the marbles are we? ![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
I've seen support guys/dads in the pits just peeling the pickup off like an orange but I've been told its just a good excuse to do a few more warm up laps and let the friction do the deed. I guess if you're going out with little time to warm the tires etc... it could be necessary .. interested to hear more myself

Knock yourself out with the heat gun. It takes a while to get it started but then goes smoother once you get going. It becomes very obvious how much heat is required and you are very unlikely to do damage to the tire. If you run a full lap off line at a race day and the tires cool it would be wise to clean them.

Used Hoosiers at Monza in 2008 at a track day, never again, you go out on cold tyres with 911 cup cars and faster 997 GT3RS with hot tyres bearing down on you into the corners.
Stay on the racing line? Yes if you want to risk body contact or hold everyone up for a lap.
The Hoosiers had a complete layer of rubber after a couple of laps and no amount of hard braking/cornering shifted it, the wheel imbalance shake nearly shook the camera off the front roll cage mount at 145mph on the start finish straight.

I ran Pirelli Corsa R after that trip - until they stopped making them!
A great tyre for the RS, lap after lap with no issues and enough tread depth to drive home in pouring rain. (so much safer than Michelin Cups)
Now using Michelin PS2 and trying out Toyo T1 Sport (great tyre)
Next will be Yokohama track tyre (A048) ? which friends have been very happy with.
