A used 6gt3 motor and tranny is $15- 23k. What's your guesstimate for 3.8 motor/tranny? Sounds like a more enticing option for guys who like what came out of factory vs rebuilding. I think it be slightly easier to sell a stock motor then a modified one. Mike

If you're paying someone to do everything, it makes a lot of financial sense to just buy a factory RS 4.0 engine, drop it in your 996, and sell your old engine. To pay someone to duplicate that engine will be in excess of $40k and then you don't have a spare engine to sell.

If you have the time/opportunity to be involved in the engine building process, the experience/knowledge gained is well worth it. If you're into that kind of thing...

Didn't see that one on John's list. I wonder if Porsche will make THAT one available. I would be surprised, but???

I don't know what connections you would need, but they certainly have RS 4.0 spares collecting dust in a warehouse.

Sounds as though it would be a heck of a score. New engine + warranty + selling your 3.6

I agree, there has to be a few spares "collecting dust" somewhere.
