Converted over today and ordered PFC 08 front and 01 rear. Although I really like the feel of the Endless ME-20 pads they didnt play well with my new Girodisc floating rotors at Road America.

Called Apex today and they were very helpful.

Made the change to PFC last weekend. One thing I noticed is that there is less friction material on the PFC 08 compared to the Endless ME-20 pad for the 996GT3 front red caliper. The PFC pads are also narrower and do not cover the entire surface of the disc, as there is now a gap between the hub and the backing plate of the pad. Not a big deal but I wasn't expecting this. The rears are identical in shape and coverage.

Looks like the Endless ME-20 is shaped like the Pagid U2707, or U8004 (hard to tell from the photo). The U8004 is 1mm shorter (101mm vs 102mm) in radial depth than the U2707, and 1mm thicker (19mm vs 18mm). The only difference seems to be the Endless doesn't bother with the tabs on the ends of the backing plates.

I don't know all the technical details of the Girodiscs you are using on the front of your 996 GT3. Are they the same 350 diameter as the factory Porsche rotors? If so, if you have used Pagids in the past, it would have been the U2707. The PF0991 pad matches the Pagid 2707 in shape and surface area, but is 17mm thick vs the 2707 being 18mm thick.

Here's a photo of the PF0991 next to a Pagid RS19 in the 2707 shape for comparison. Would love to get my hands on an Endless ME-20 to take some measurements.

Mark,
The Girodisc are 350 mm front which is a direct swap with the stock steel cross drilled rotor, and I have never used PAGID pads before. The PFC 08's are also thinner friction material as they are identical in thickness to a set of ME-20's that have 8 sessions on them at RA.

I have two sets of ME-20 fronts, I can send you my first set that are 70% spent if you can send them back to me as a backup spare. PM me with info and I can ship them on Wednesday when I get back from RA.

I’m currently running Pagid yellows, and I’m about to replace my well-used stock front rotors with a pair of slotted Demans rotors. My home track (NOLA Motorsports) has a long fast straight, at the end of which the speedo indicates 150MPH, so probably 143MPH actual speed. I get a bit of tail wag under hard braking at the end of this straight, despite having gotten my LSD recently rebuilt with Guard internals.

Several people on this thread appear to be running a more aggressive pad compound on the rear than the front (PFC 06F/01R or 08F/06R). For those that do, did you notice an improvement in tail wag when going to a split compound with more bite in the rear? It appears I still have a good amount of pad material left on the Pagids, but I’ll change them if it would improve high speed braking stability. Would PFC 08F/06R represent an improvement over what I have now?

fbirch:
If you like Pagid and want to stay with those, you could run RS29 (yellow) front, RS14 (black) in the rear to get more out of the rear brakes.

If you want to get similar results using Performance Friction, you could try 08 front 01 rear, 08 front 06 rear, or 06 front 01 rear. I've found through feedback from customers, and through my own experience that the PFCs don't lose feel as they drop below 50%. Since you said your front pads are in good shape, you could just put some Pagid RS14 on the rear.

This is from the Pagid Racing web regarding size of pads:

Bigger vs Smaller Pad
A larger friction surface will not improve stopping power. The amount of pressure applied, coefficient of friction and the disc diameter determine stopping force. A bigger pad does not apply more pressure, only the same pressure over a bigger area. The size of the pad matters in terms of heat capacity and wear rate. A larger pad will absorb more initial heat and has better wear characteristics.

Any comments on brake dust on 97/01/06/08.

I have 97-pads on my car. I like them, but I can not get my wheels clean any more.
The brake dust is like concrete.......

Are 01/06/08 the same?

I've had no issues with the dust from the 06 and 01 coming off the wheels, and non of our customers using them have reported issues. I have heard the dust from the 97s can be problematic especially if it has gotten wet and then left to dry on the wheels

My nice silver Forgeline wheels are gunmetal colored after one track day at Road America then a nice shade of smoke black after two days running 08's in the front. This would probably amount to several months of daily driving on the street so definitely not too much help.

One suggestion I can provide when trying to keep street wheels looking nice and shiny, and what I have used this on my Audi RS4 is brake dust repellent. Spray it on dry wheels after they are clean helps to keep them shiny for a few weeks at a time. Armor All makes this product along with a few others.

P21S Gel in the gold box and a sponge will help get the wheels clean to start with as well.

Need to replace my pads. I'm thinking of going with 08 front and 01 rear set up. Anyone here with more feedback on that set up?

I saw some guys post that they were going with that a few weeks back. How's it going so far?

I have run Road America for three events now-9 days on 08f/01r and this set up works very well. Still have just under 1/2 the life left in the pads as well so I am quite happy with the set up.

I was recommended by the good chaps at Design911 to use 01 all around for my 997.1 GT3 for the street.

How are they like for low temp stopping and general performance compared to stock pads?

Thanks!
