we have alot of road registered full cage cars here.
is it safe(r) with padding, or are these guys taking a massive risk driving on the road?

Eric tell them what your car weighs empty. That should shock everyone....

big risk without helmet
the padding as no softer than rocks.
try to bang your head against it while parked.
i didn't believe it. then i tested my forehead against in the garage. it won.

When Dan set this car up he had it down to 2512 lbs. I have since added a few back in via stock exhaust needed to meet sound and a temporary 2nd seat setup as needed.

It is a hoot.

I was hoping for a free lunch, but, it appears that the free lunch comes with a threat of death via roll cage.

FFAUST: You are correct. I may have to buy a Trailer.

Mooty: Do you trailer the car or drive it to the track?

in 2009 i drove my BSR (fully caged) to races, win and drive home. then it dawned on me that i am not immortal. and the car broke down once on track 400 miles away from home. after that i bought and started trailer to track.

whlie trailering is a hassle, but once you trailered, you wont go back.

And while it is a bit more of a hassle than driving to and from, it is infinitely less of hassle should a mishap or mechanical happen at the track, as mooty alluded to.

The other advantage is that, once you start trailering, you can get more aggressive alignments without the risk of cording the inside edge of your tires by driving down the highway in a straight line.

It's also quite a bit nicer to drive home in the tow vehicle, instead of in the stripper, after a day or weekend at the track. You know, AC, cup holders, decent sound levels, nice tunes, day-dreaming or just reflecting back on the day's events.

$5000 will get you a nice used 900-lbs Trailex

You're welcome

better approach is to look at street car lap time, then look at cup car lap time.

I have allways refered to it as a lap dance when talking about strippers. You learn something new every day.
